Today starts National Police Week.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died in the line of duty. It is celebrated on May 15 of each year.

In 2024 Illinois had 9 officers killed in the line of duty. One is too many.

Are you a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and reside in Illinois? If so, you are eligible for the Illinois FOP license plate. Proceeds from the sale of these license plates support the IL FOP Outreach Program, a 501(c)(3) organization. The Outreach Program aids our Disaster Response Unit (DRU), Project Blue Life, and various other initiatives.

As always any FOP member in good standing is welcome to attend. Also, any sworn member of the Belvidere PD, Boone County SD or surrounding LE Agencies (corrections, deputy, sheriff’s patrol, agents, officer or dispatcher) who are interested in membership are also welcomed to attend.

K9 Azi was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a subject who barricaded himself in a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn at 1300 North Central Expressway in McKinney.

The Boone County FOP Lodge #920 again sponsored a family for Christmas this year. The tree was decorated by Ret. Boone County Dep. & Lodge Co-Secretary Rhonda Moore. Yesterday Executive Board Members attended Shop-with-a-Cop & afterwards purchased gifts for the family.

Today we had the pleasure of delivering the tree & gifts to our sponsored family!! Thank you to our membership for supporting our communities in Boone County & for their dedication and service to the same!!!

Today, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On that fateful day, we saw incredible acts of heroism from law enforcement, firefighters, and civilians who selflessly rushed toward danger. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. As we honor those who gave their lives, we stand united in our commitment to protect and serve, ensuring their legacy lives on.
