What a day to thank a farmer! On National Farmer’s Day, we honor our hardworking agriculturalists who plow, sow, grow, and harvest to feed us and so many more.
⁣
Prayer: When we pray through the Offertory portion of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, not only are the “firstfruits” offered, that of bread and w**e, but also our own spiritual offerings which we give to the Lord. The next time you are at Mass, during the Offertory, focus on the gifts being offered to the Lord and the farmers’ hands that gathered them, but also offer a spiritual thanksgiving for our local farmers.

Action: Farmers have their busy seasons. If you know a farmer, put together a meal for them during their busy harvest or planting season. Offer any help with chores and other ways to build community.

This Gospel reading ought to give us all pause as we approach Election Day, especially when we hear phrases when voting between “the lesser of two options.” If we are divided amongst ourselves by choosing an evil on purpose rather than choosing what is good, then we have weakened ourselves. We cannot drive our evil with evil. We must at all turns choose what is good, true, and beautiful.
