Shade isn't a luxury here. It's care.

It's September and still 100 degrees, and our rehab dogs don't get to skip a day because of it. They're learning to trust people again, learning leash manners, learning how to be a dog. That work keeps going, so it has to be safe.

So we plan around the heat. Shaded play areas and cool indoor space. Sessions moved to early morning and evening. Water everywhere. Frequent breaks. We check the pavement with our own hands before any paws touch it, because ground that feels fine through shoes can burn a dog's feet in seconds.

Dogs won't tell you when to stop. They'll play right past heat exhaustion because they trust us to make the call. So we make it.

Shade structures, fans, cooling mats, water systems, staff hours: it all costs money, and extreme heat pushes it higher.

❤️ Today was an important day for Summer & Murdoch.

For the first time since coming into our program on July 27th, these two sweet souls were able to spend an entire day outside of LRR.

Summer is 14. Murdoch is 8. They spent the last eight years together in the same home, with the same routines, and facility life has been incredibly difficult for them to adjust to. They often sit by the gate staring toward the front door, almost as if they’re still waiting for someone to come back for them. 💔

Today, they got a break from that.

A huge thank you to Merry Maids for welcoming them for Waggin Wednesday. They loved the car ride, the attention, and simply getting to experience life outside the facility again. 🐾

Summer and Murdoch are a bonded pair, lived with cats in their prior life, and desperately need a foster or forever home together.

These babies have spent enough time waiting by the door. We hope very soon, someone walks through it just for them. ❤️

Please share and help us find their person.

🐾 A little extra spoiling for our Rescue Rehab babies today! ❤️

We stopped by Ma's Pet Pantry right here on Main Street and picked up some special goodies for the pups! They had so many great options, and we found some treats that should keep plenty of tails wagging for a while. 🐶🥰

We are so thankful for the wonderful small businesses in our community that care about animals just as much as we do. Every little extra we can give these babies helps make their days a little brighter — and they deserve every bit of it. ❤️

If you haven’t checked out Ma’s Pet Pantry yet, definitely stop in and show them some love! We love supporting local businesses while spoiling our Rescue Rehab babies along the way. 🐾

💙 Thankful Thursday 💙

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that saving these babies truly takes a village. 🐾

Today, we want to take a moment to thank every single person and business who continues to show up for Lily’s Rescue Rehab and the babies in our program.

Recently, Belton Price Chopper donated hot dogs for our babies, and let’s just say… they were VERY much appreciated! 🌭🐶 It’s acts of kindness like this, big and small, that remind us just how fortunate we are to have a community standing behind these babies.

Whether you donate $5, provide food or supplies, volunteer your time, attend a fundraiser, share one of our posts, or simply tell someone about our mission — you are helping us continue this work.

We can provide the care, training, enrichment, patience, and love, but we cannot do it alone.

Every second chance we give is a community effort. Every success story belongs to all of us.

To everyone who continues to support us along the way, thank you for believing in these babies and helping us give them the lives they deserve. 💙🐾

We truly could not do this without you.

🐾 Bellamy has waited long enough. It’s time for his forever.

Bellamy is our longest resident and has been part of Lily’s Rescue Rehab since July 2025. In fact, Bellamy holds a very special place in our story—he was the very first resident at our North Scott facility. ❤️

His story started when he was found running down a highway near St. Louis. We don’t believe Bellamy ever truly knew what it meant to have a home. Based on his history and behavior, we believe he was likely raised in a cage and used as a breeding dog.

When Bellamy came to us, he was also heartworm positive. He went through treatment, fought through it, and today, Bellamy has beaten heartworm! 🙌

Since arriving, this boy has worked incredibly hard. He’s had training, consistency, patience, enrichment, and most importantly—the opportunity to learn that people can be safe.

Now he needs something we simply can’t give him inside a facility: a home of his own.

🐕 Bellamy is 100% German Shepherd—he was DNA tested!
🏡 He would thrive with a fenced backyard and a dog-savvy, confident handler.
🐾 We believe he would do best as the only pet in the home, although he may be able to coexist with another dog with the right match and proper introductions. Our team would be happy to help with those introductions.

Bellamy has overcome so much. From running down a highway, to heartworm treatment, to becoming our very first North Scott resident—this boy has fought for his second chance. Now we need to help him find it.

He’s been waiting since July 2025. Please help us make this the post that finds Bellamy his person. ❤️

❤️ Austin’s story is still being written. ❤️

We are so grateful for our partnership with the Humane Society of Ray County. Together, we’ve successfully found homes for several dogs who simply weren’t doing well in a traditional shelter environment. Sometimes these babies don’t need anything complicated—they just need time, a calmer environment, consistency, and people who refuse to give up on them.

Austin is one of those babies. 🐾

We haven’t had a lot of interest in Austin just yet, but that doesn’t mean we stop trying. Every single day, our team continues working with him—helping him build confidence, heal from his past, and learn that people can be trusted.

And then there’s Cindy. ❤️

Cindy is a volunteer with HSRC who cared for Austin before he came to Lily’s Rescue Rehab. When she comes to visit, Austin remembers her. He remembers the person who showed him patience, kindness, and compassion during another uncertain chapter of his life. Watching him open up when he sees her is pretty special.

This is why shelter partnerships are so important. It takes all of us working together to give dogs like Austin the time and opportunities they deserve.

Thank you, Cindy. Thank you, Humane Society of Ray County. And thank you to every shelter partner who trusts us with these babies.

Austin, your people just haven’t found you yet. But we’re going to keep looking until they do. ❤️🏡

Enrichment is so much more than just play—it gives our rescue babies a chance to think, explore, learn, and build confidence. 🐾💙

For dogs who have experienced stress, uncertainty, or life in a shelter, these moments matter. New smells, puzzles, training exercises, agility, walks, and one-on-one time help keep their minds and bodies engaged while teaching them that the world can be a pretty fun place. 🥹

Enrichment is rehabilitation. And sometimes, the smallest experiences create the biggest changes. 🐶✨
