We have been quiet here the last year. There has been a lot of “family” going on and we are trying to semi-retire from our farming business. We didn’t raise any fawn this year ourselves, only ran triage for our sister/brother rehabbers. As a result we haven’t asked for help. We have had expenses of course…supplies etc. We feed and care for our nonreleaseables every day. But we chose to keep them. So we are still not asking for help. Today I was contacted by the son in law of a long time supporter. Janet was the rescuer of our Miracle. A crippled piebald fawn that she found in their hayfield 5 years ago. He is still with us today. Healthy and thriving. Janet became an avid supporter of our mission. She sadly lost her battle with cancer 2 years ago. Her family and friends have been faithful ever since with donations in her honor. We took our website down and now there are no links to our Amazon or Venmo. So I was asked today to post those. There is an amazon wishlist and all those things we could use. Venmo will go to feed which our biggest expense. If you really want to know where it will be the most useful, call Rogers Feed and tell them you want to donate feed to PK Fawn Rescue. Make sure to say In Memory of Janet. ❤️

When you look at our page, you’ll notice, there are no squirrels, no cottontails, no opossums, no birds (songbirds, waterbirds or birds of prey), not even groundhogs, who in my opinion are some of the coolest animals on earth. I know there are other local rescue groups that can take in every native species and some other stuff, too. We think they are amazing (and we're friends with most of them). We however, just have never been able to make all that work. When we did, we felt that animal care was falling below our standards and we were spread too thin. Though it was a long windy road to get here, it turns out, we’re pretty good at rehabbing raccoons, foxes, bobcats, etc, otherwise known as rabies vector species. We kind of have a soft spot for wild animals that are frequently vilified for being themselves.

These animals play an important role in mother nature's food web and help maintain a balanced and healthy ecosystem. For instance, bobcats and coyotes, though not apex predators, are near the top of the food chain. They help keep down populations of mesopredators, such as raccoons and foxes. Mesopredators are very adaptable and numbers can explode in rural areas on the fringe and in the midst of human activities. Dense populations of mesopredators put a strain on native bird populations. Some articles I’ve read even suggest that bobcats and coyotes are Keystone Species. That’s a pretty impressive role to hold. Whether you agree with that or not, studies have shown that areas where “Top Down” predators are sparse, food resources are overtaxed causing higher starvation rates for those lower on the food chain.

Mesopredators (raccoons, foxes, skunks) also play a vital role in a balanced ecosystem by controlling rodent and small herbivore populations, and even acting as scavengers, cleaning up carrion left by larger predators or automobile related fatalities. Think about this trickle down effect, and how every animal, plant and organism fit together in such an intricate way. Mother Nature is fascinating!

If you’re still reading this, and didn’t nod off or die from boredom, then you might enjoy our 6 week virtual summer camp hosted by Izzie’s Friend’s Club beginning Monday, July 3rd. Each week we will feature a different species of native wildlife that we rehab here at Izzie’s Pond. We’ll talk about that animal's role in the environment and what we can do to be a friend to wildlife. There will also be downloadable color pages and craft projects for the kids and nature themed activities for the family.

Virtual Summer Camp will take place on our Izzie’s Pond Subscribers page. For $4.99 a month, the whole family can participate. This is beneficial for us also, because all proceeds from our Subscribers page go directly to our veterinary expenses.

To attend, join on or before July 3rd by using the link www.facebook.com/becomesupporter/IzziesPond

See you there!

Don't be a fawn-napper!
Seeing a fawn alone is not a cause for concern. Doe will leave their babies bedded-down during the day to keep from predation and so she can travel to forage. They tend to do this around houses because they know predators are less likely in these areas. She is almost always close by.

If you notice these signs, contact a fawn rehabber ASAP:
🦌Running around calling mom for hours on end
🦌Tips of the ears are curled back
🦌Diarrhea
🦌Flies, fly strike (looks like grains of rice), or maggots
🦌Obvious wounds or injury

Keep the baby where they are and keep people, pets and children away from the baby. The only time the baby should be moved is if there are actively being attacked by flies. Then you can place the baby in a carrier or secure container in a dark, warm and quiet place. DO NOT feed them.

If a fawn is found laying in the middle of the road and are not injured, pick them up and place them safely on the other side. Tap them on the head to lay down. The pavement is very slippery for those just learning to walk and use their hooves and sometimes they simply need help to cross. Observe the area for as long as you can to make sure the baby does not run back across the street. DO NOT take them home!!!

Never feed the baby!

We are not licensed for fawn here at CWCC. Please contact a fawn rehabber in your area using this list. http://www.ncwildlife.org/injured-wildlife/contact-a-fawn-rehabiliator.

Just call a rehabber if you find a fawn. Please. Soon there will be no more room in the sanctuaries for the deer who are too accustomed to peopling to be wild. 🥺

Can you find the buck 😅😅
I wish folks would stop taming deer and releasing them back to public locations like behind this ball field. Kids have been playing with this rutty buck for weeks. Tonight at dusk we finally found him.

Transported to sanctuary and now he will not have to be put down for future crimes 😅 that he would likely hurt a person. Wouldn't be his fault, he has no idea how to be a deer at this point and is drawn to people. He walked right up to us. 🦌💔

This lady does more than anyone I know for deer!. If you ever wanted to volunteer… We are on a mini hiatus this year, lots of life going on right now. So we are just helping instead of raising fawn on our own. But the fawn are still coming and this superwoman can use all the volunteers she can get.

🚨🦌🚨Calling all Volun'deer's. I am almost maxed out on how many fawn I can care for in a day. I am at 75 fawn!!! It takes alot of time to prepair bottles, feed fawn, feed adult deer, feed farm animals, feed pets, give medical attention, clean p*e pads, etc. I have had to already quit going on rescue's myself and so thankful to the people running rescues for me. There is just only so much time in the day.

If any of you have alittle extra time during the weekdays, please msg. me. Thank you❤️

Thank you to the kind people donating to our rescue and purchasing from our wishlist. Your generosity is helping save orphaned and injured fawn. (Link in Bio)

About Us

We operate a for profit goat dairy and creamery, Possum Kingdom Kreamery. Here at the farm we also have a heart for wildlife. Farmers haven't always had the best relationship with wildlife and we try hard to find non-lethal ways to co-exist. Shrinking habitats and compassion for the wild creatures, make this a neccesity. Having a goat farm you are a natural candidate for taking in orphans of many species. After all, you have a ready supply of milk! We always end up taking in a few fawn a year that people would bring us for rehabbing . In 2018 we teamed up with Magnolia Fawn Rescue so we could be more help. Magnolia is an all volunteer, non profit rescue that works with orphaned and injured fawn in Upstate SC. You can follow them on Facebook at Magnolia Fawn Rescue . In 2019 we have taken in more fawn than ever before. So we decided to form our own rescue. We still work with Magnolia Fawn. In fact, we work closely with all our sister rescues, even if its just referring for a species we don't handle, or helping with pick up and transport. We can make more of a difference together!
