In honor of National Nonprofit Day, we’re grateful to share our origin story, told by Matt Wood and Marc Wood, who dreamed of giving back to their community in significant and meaningful ways after launching The Wood Group of Fairway.

Matt and Marc experienced housing instability themselves as children when their family lost their home due to their father’s serious health issues. That personal hardship, combined with their generous hearts and desire to help others, ultimately led them to start Firm Foundations.

Today, our mission is to keep children in their homes by covering rent or mortgage payments when a family crisis threatens eviction—so fewer children have to endure the added hardship of losing their housing while their family is already facing a crisis.

We have been sharing our testimonies on our Honduras mission trip training calls. We do this for several reasons, partly to get to know each other and bond as a team even BEFORE we go, and partly to practice and be ready to share our stories while on the trip with the locals, the staff, and each other.

It is always amazing to hear how God is at work in someone’s life. You really never know what other people have been through, and some of us have been through some really hard things. So thanks for sharing your heart with us, friends! And Praise God for how He is at work in your lives, and at work for our trip!

We will be there in less than 3 months, and can’t wait! 🇭🇳

The youngest daughter in this family had a heart transplant after months of hospitalization, and surviving on a Berlin heart. She is now over a year, and her health is improving.

Mom and Dad were both working full-time previous to their daughter’s health issues, but Kaylin had to stop working after her daughters transplant early on, as her daughter is immuno compromised and needed specialized full time care. On top of this, they have two other elementary aged children, and Kaylin’s mother also lives with them, and they care for her as well.

It was really difficult for the family to afford their bills going from a two income household down to one, on top of all their medical debt. They have been trying everything they can to cut back on costs, selling things inside of the home, getting approved for short term government assistance, and doing whatever possible to keep them in their beloved home in this difficult season. They were recommended to Firm Foundations and we were able to cover part of their mortgage for the month, and secure a donation from another organization towards them as well.

Kaylin says: “Firm Foundations was quite the blessing. They really listened to our families story and sought to understand our immediate needs. The team worked with our hospital to have a major bill for the month lifted off our shoulders, plus gave recommendations for other local resources and additional organizations we have not heard of that could provide help. This group truly cares about what we are going through. Thank you Firm Foundations!”

Thank you all for joining us at our Ambassador Appreciation party. We had so much fun celebrating our growth and enjoying quality fellowship together on such a lovely day.

Thank you to each of our Ambassadors that serve our organization so faithfully and creatively, and have all helped build our ministry to where we are today. We are so grateful for your dedicated efforts to serve children in need and keep them safe in their homes during seasons of crisis.

Thank you Stacie and Matt for letting us enjoy the gift of your wonderful home and beautiful backyard today. What a blessing.

Firm Foundations is so thankful for our Board of Directors, our Ambassadors, our donors, and volunteers- and everyone who supports us in one way or another. We appreciate you and are grateful for the privilege of serving with each of you!

A testimony from one of the families we helped this month:

My name is Brianne, and I am a mother of six. On November 20, 2025, I welcomed my twins into the world, but on March 18, 2026, I experienced the unimaginable loss of one of my babies, Melody. During this time of deep grief and heartbreak, I was also facing the possibility of being displaced with my children, with no financial stability and uncertainty surrounding our future.
In the midst of one of the most difficult seasons of my life, I was referred to Firm Foundations.

Their support came at a time when I truly had nothing left to give. They stepped in with compassion, kindness, and genuine care, helping me secure the deposit for a new home for my family. Their assistance gave us not only a place to stay, but also a sense of hope and stability when we needed it most. I am beyond grateful for the love, prayers, and support they have shown me and my children.

Firm Foundations is more than just a program—they are a source of light during dark times. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need and applaud their unwavering compassion and dedication.
