It is with true sadness that we learned of the passing of Jim Dukas this morning.

Another of America’s Greatest Generation has passed. Jim was a US Navy veteran who served in the Pacific in WWII.

He was a long time member of Belpre American Legion and was responsible for sending many a young man to Boy’s State to be taught how government is meant to be run.

He was honored last year by some of his fellow veterans by being inducted into the Washington County Veteran’s Hall of Fame.

Jim recently celebrated his 100th birthday. He was honored by his family at this occasion. He will be truly missed.

Your Belpre Area Veterans again had the pleasure of carrying the Flag and leading the Belpre Homecoming Parade this year!!

We want to thank those who stood, removed their hats and placed their hands over their hearts as the American Flag passed.

Today we started our Purple Heart Recognition & Agent Orange Awareness week. Here is a photo of our Honor Walk with purple and orange lights. You can sponsor a service member for $5, we will place their card on the designated purple or orange light in their honor. See the attached flyer and sponsor form.

Just a reminder - next meeting of Belpre Area Veterans is Tuesday, July 14th, at 7:00 pm. We meet at Belpre Senior Citizens Center. Come a little early so you can roast your favorite Branch of Service!

Today, we took time to celebrate America's Freedom and honor the American Flag. The mayor, along with some faithful Belpre residents, joined us at Howes Grove Park. With everyone's participation, we retired a total 2026 American Flags (1776 for our Independence and 250 for our anniversary). These American Flags served our country well and were retired with dignity and respect. This link will allow you to see pictures/videos from today's ceremony.

Belpre Area Veterans President Eric Clark and Vice President Bob Hadfield assisted the Marietta Noon Lions Club put up flags for the Bridge of Heroes in honor of the 250th Anniversary of America!!

Note: Bob Hadfield is also the President of Marietta Noon Lions Club.
