🦁💜👁️🦯Today is Helen Keller Day!

Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA, in 1880, Helen Keller developed a fever at 18 months of age that left her blind and deaf. With the help of an exceptional teacher, Anne Mansfield Sullivan of the Perkins School for the Blind, Helen Keller learned sign language and braille.

A few years later, she learned to speak. As an adult, she became a tireless advocate for people with disabilities.

And in 1925, she attended the Lions Clubs International Convention and challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness."

The Lions accepted her challenge, and our work ever since has included sight programs aimed at preventable blindness.

In 1971, the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International declared that June 1 would be remembered as Helen Keller Day.

Our club will be hosting one of the stops in Washington county!

Come and join us for a Jeep ride for Pediatric Cancer!

All funds raised go toward pediatric cancer research in Ohio, and to assist families with gas cards during active treatment!

A day of fun for the whole family!

So happy for one of our amazing Belpre Lions Club members and Veteran of the Month recipients was able to take part in Honor Flight!

McAfee’s service was recognized in a new way when he took part in Honor Flight No. 151, traveling from Columbus, Ohio, to Washington, D.C., to visit national memorials dedicated to veterans.

Today we were excited to be able to hand out two- $250 scholarships to Belpre graduating Seniors Liam Kocher and Cheylynne Parsons. These students wowed us with their applications and interviews, it was an extremely hard decision to pick two students when everyone who applied were amazing. We look at community involvement, grades and the recommendation letters for each of our applicants.

Tonight, we got the honor to award and celebrate 10 out of the 12, 3rd grade kiddos who were selected by their teachers and their families through the G.O.O.D. program. These kids were selected because they show amazing kindness, heart and respect to each other and everyone around them. We are so proud of each and every one of you! Thank you to all the 4rd grade teachers at Belpre Elementary school and a special thank you to Mrs. Simpers for helping to collaborate this evening.

Tuesday current President Jolene Reeder and immediate past President Vicki E. Boggs helped serve lunches at the Belpre Senior Center! The club sponsored 47 lunches and we were so happy to get to mingle with some of our community members.
