Take it from someone who turned 20 years of incarceration into a life of impact, purpose, and recognition.

From prison walls to standing before the Mayor and the City of Milwaukee receiving awards — that’s what redemption looks like.

That’s what resilience looks like.

That’s what FREEDOM looks like.

This Juneteenth Day Beloit 2026 is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder.

A reminder that our past does not define our future.

A reminder that delayed freedom is not denied destiny.

A reminder that Black excellence rises — even after setback.

If you are working your way back… If you are working through something… If you are rebuilding, restoring, or reclaiming your life…

Know this: Your comeback can be greater than your setback.

This Juneteenth, we honor freedom, transformation, second chances, and the power of community to lift one another higher.

Freedom is not just a date in history — it’s a decision we make every day to rise.

Come out and listen to this young man talk about Mindset Change and the Shift....

đź‘‘ Meet Marie Van Brittan Brown

Before Ring cameras.
Before doorbell cameras.

Before alarm systems and surveillance apps…

There was a Black nurse and single mom who invented it first.

In the 1960s, Marie lived in New York City, working late-night shifts while crime in her neighborhood was rising.

Police response times were slow, and she often felt unsafe coming home alone.
So instead of waiting for someone else to fix the problem…

She built the solution herself.

đź’ˇ What she created:
She invented the first home security system, which included:

✔️ Cameras that slid up and down the door

✔️ A monitor to see who was outside

✔️ A two-way microphone to speak to visitors

✔️ A panic button to alert police
Sound familiar?

That’s because her design became the blueprint for:

• CCTV cameras
• Ring doorbells
• Intercom systems
• Modern alarm systems

Every time someone checks their door camera today…

They’re using her idea.

đź–¤ The wild part?

Most people have never heard her name.

Yet her invention protects millions of families worldwide every day.

Rising Queens Gem Drop:

Sometimes Black history isn’t just marches and speeches…

Sometimes it’s innovation, brilliance, and everyday problem solving.

Marie didn’t wait to be saved.

She created safety for her family and changed the world.

That’s Black excellence.

That’s leadership.

That’s boss energy.

🔥 Lewis Latimer — The Light Behind the Light Bulb

Most people learn Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.

But what they don’t tell you is:

đź’ˇ Lewis Latimer created the carbon filament that made the bulb last longer and affordable for homes.

đź’ˇ Without his improvement, light bulbs burned out too fast to be useful.

đź’ˇ He also wrote the technical manual that helped cities install lighting systems.

👉 In short: He made Edison’s invention actually work.

📌 The Hidden History of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street (Greenwood)

đź–¤ What Was Black Wall Street?

Long before the Civil Rights Movement, Tulsa’s Greenwood District was one of the most prosperous Black communities in the United States — so successful that it was nicknamed “Black Wall Street.” It had thriving Black-owned businesses, restaurants, theaters, doctors’ offices, and more — built by African Americans who came seeking economic opportunity and independence during segregation.

🔥 The Tulsa Race Massacre — Not Just a “Riot”

In 1921, a white mob attacked Greenwood, burning and looting more than 35 blocks of homes and businesses in just about 18 hours — destroying the wealth and legacy of this community. It’s now seen by historians as one of the worst incidents of racial violence in U.S. history.

Many survivors and descendants say “race riot” is too mild a term — it was a *massacre and coordinated assault on a Black community.”

Oklahoma Historical Society

📉 Suppression and Silence

For decades after 1921, the Tulsa story was not taught in schools, covered up in newspapers, and largely ignored in mainstream history books.

Many families never received insurance payments for the property destroyed because authorities labeled it a “riot,” which often voided insurance claims.

✊ Rebuilding and Black Resilience
Despite unimaginable loss, the Black residents rebuilt Greenwood, and by the 1940s the district again featured hundreds of Black-owned businesses and establishments — a testament to resilience and entrepreneurial excellence even in the wake of devastation.

📌 Modern Context & Justice

Today, Greenwood is home to Greenwood Rising, a major history center dedicated to telling this story accurately and teaching future generations about both the brilliance and the tragedy of Black Wall Street.

Join the celebration the weekend of May 14th 15 and 16th and Greenwood's rebuilding Black Wall Street...

🌟 Gladys West – The Hidden Genius Behind GPS

📚 Who She Is
Dr. Gladys West is a brilliant mathematician whose calculations helped create the foundation for GPS technology — yes, the same GPS we use every day to get directions, track rides, deliver food, and navigate life.

Yet for decades, her name was almost invisible in history books.

🧠 Her Story
Born in 1930 in rural Virginia to sharecroppers
Worked in the fields growing up while excelling in school
Earned a full scholarship to Virginia State College (an HBCU)
Later earned a master’s degree in mathematics

At a time when Black women rarely had access to STEM careers, she became a mathematician for the U.S. Navy at Dahlgren.

🚀 The Big Impact (What most people don’t know)

In the 1970s–80s, West:
Programmed computers the size of rooms

Analyzed satellite data
Created precise mathematical models of the Earth’s shape (geodesy)

Her work helped determine:

✔️ exact Earth measurements
✔️ satellite positioning accuracy
✔️ the math that makes GPS possible today

Without her formulas…
👉 your phone maps wouldn’t work
👉 ambulances couldn’t track locations
👉 planes and ships couldn’t navigate precisely

She literally helped the world find its way.

🏆 Recognition (finally!)

For years, she worked quietly behind the scenes.

It wasn’t until 2018 that she was:
Inducted into the Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame

Publicly recognized as a GPS pioneer

✊🏾 Hidden Black History Spotlight

The Free Breakfast Revolution

Led by the Black Panther Party

Most people only hear one version of the Panthers.

They’re often shown as “angry,” “militant,” or “dangerous.”

But here’s what rarely gets talked about:

👉🏾 They fed thousands of kids every single morning.

Before the government ever stepped in…

Before schools offered breakfast…

Before “food insecurity” became a term…

The Black Panther Party created the first nationwide FREE breakfast program for children.

🥞 The History They Don’t Teach

In 1969:
Panthers woke up at 5:00 a.m.

Cooked hot meals
Partnered with churches & community centers

Fed kids before school

Asked for nothing in return

They served:
Eggs
Grits
Pancakes
Bacon
Fruit
Milk

Not snacks.

Full meals.

Because they believed:
“You can’t learn on an empty stomach.”

Within a year: 👉🏾 20,000+ kids per day were being fed nationwide

The program worked so well that the U.S. government later created public school breakfast programs modeled after it.

So the breakfasts kids get today?

That started with the Panthers.

From Selma to today, the fight for justice never stopped.

Our ancestors marched so we could vote, learn, lead, and live free.

Now it’s our turn.
It takes a village.
It takes unity.
It takes courage.

We stand together for human rights, equity, and opportunity for every family.

Because when one of us rises… we ALL rise. ✊🏾

And sometimes that means going to the polls and even voting out your own party of choice if they are not meeting the needs of your community.

It starts local, then County, then state because it's the local and the county who affects what happens in your community and if they're not doing the work that benefits the black community then it's time for them to go.

Your school Board! If our babies ain't getting the right education and we're repeating a cycle of failure then it's time for them to go and should not be allowed to be voted back in!

This includes your judges your DA's and your prosecutors. If they're not solving crimes and if they're not being judicially fair to blacks it's time for them to go.

In order for us to live comfortable in life we must get uncomfortable and that's talking about things that might offend others.

We're not out to hurt anyone but we're out to protect our human rights as we should.

Take a, take a look around it's no secret blacks in our community and around the world are still on the bottom of the totem pole for Justice!
