Our Story
For 12 years, our programs has helped 2nd and 3rd grade students in northern Kent County to improve their reading level by an average of 1.5 years. Students are referred by their teachers after the initial Fall reading assessments. Eligible students are those who are struggling to meet grade-level expectations.
Our Reading Club is modeled on the YET program (Youth Education for Tomorrow) from Philadelphia. A certified teacher, an assistant teacher and volunteers help the students with reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and building confidence.
The Reading Club is free to students and is funded by grants, donations, and individuals. The program is offered as a service of the Loaves & Fishes Family Center, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization housed at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. We always welcome and need your financial support. Checks can be made payable to Explore & Soar Reading Club and mailed to us at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, or make a donation via PayPal using a major credit card or PayPal account: all contributions made through the "Donate" button on this page go directly to the Reading Club. All or part of your gift may be tax-deductible as a charitable contribution (please check with your tax adviser).
Or support the Reading Club through Smile.Amazon.com by searching for Loaves and Fishes Family Center (in Belmont, MI).
