The 21-year-old Belmar man who was captured in a YouTube video laughing as he beat up a homeless man in Wall Township was sentenced to three years state prison Friday.

An update on David from Cat Ivins:

"David relapsed Sunday and is probably back in Belmar. If anyone sees him please do not help him with money or gift cards right now - just tell David to call his brother who loves him. His brother's phone number is on David's ID card. Prayers are very much appreciated right now. He was doing an amazing job and we love and miss him and know he can still do this."

It's important for anyone from the Belmar area who comes into contact with David to share Cat's message. Thank you.

Update on David's progress provided by Karla Bardiñas of News 12 NJ:

"Great news about David Ivins. His family picked him up yesterday from rehab in Pennsylvania. So after three weeks of rehab, he's back in Monmouth County, NJ. He's staying with family until they can get him into a group home nearby. They feel that's the best place for him so he can be medically monitored. Right now they tell me he's cleaned up and sober. But, we all know addiction is a long road, and they realize that too. They want him somewhere professionals can help him stay sober. I wish him continued success on his road to recovery."

Let's all hope David continues on his positive path to recovery throughout this new year!

Thanks to Karla for the update and to everyone who has and/or continues to show their support for David. As I've said in the past, all of these positive messages will surely help contribute to David's success in the future. It's only a matter of time before he gets the chance to come onto the page and read all of your encouraging and supportive comments!

Karla Bardiñas of News 12:

"Change of plans for David Ivins. I spoke to his sister this morning. She says David had to miss Christmas with his family. After having the seizure, she says doctors made it clear he needed to enter rehab sooner than planned. He's in Pennsylvania now (went there Saturday), on medication, and under supervision. His sister says he's doing as well as can be expected. They plan to visit him there this Sunday. She says David told her, 'I didn't think anybody cared about me.' She says he's very touched by the outpouring of support for him worldwide."

The E Street Shuffle will host a benefit concert for David Ivins, the homeless man beaten in a wooded section of Wall, at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the 507 Main bar and restaurant.
