John Tate helped lay the foundation for many officers either starting their careers for law enforcement as SLEO's in Seaside Heights Police Department, or attending the Ocean County Police Academy. Those that had the honor of knowing him personally or professionally, were better people for it. This truly is a loss to the law enforcement community as a whole.

Our Academy staff is deeply saddened by the passing of our Chief Training Coordinator Ret. Lt. John Tate.

After beginning his career with the Seaside Heights Police Department and retiring as a Lieutenant in 2003, he joined the Academy staff and began training recruits in 2005.

For more than two decades, he mentored and shaped generations of police recruits who came through our Academy — not just teaching them how to do the job, but how to be in the job. He set the standard for professionalism, integrity, and leadership, all while making the toughest days a little lighter with his unmistakable humor.

He was smart in a way that made everyone around him sharper. Kind in a way that made everyone around him better. And generous with his time, wisdom, and encouragement in ways that will ripple through this profession for years to come.

The officers walking our streets today carry pieces of his guidance with them. His impact cannot be measured in years of service alone — it lives on in the countless lives he influenced.

We are better because he was here.
We are grateful for his leadership.
We will carry his legacy forward.

Rest easy. We’ve got it from here. 💙

We are sending our deepest condolences to the Tate family today. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

HERE ARE THE 3 HERO OFFICERS WE LOST

Detective Sgt. Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser, of the Northern York County Regional police force, were killed the moment they opened the front door to the house of his stalking victim, which was empty except for the co**se of the family dog the suspect had killed inside.

The backstory:
The shootout happened on Wednesday afternoon, as officers were attempting to serve a search warrant. The day before, officers responded to that same home for reports that a man was lurking outside.

A woman told officers that they saw her ex-boyfriend on a trail camera outside their house. In the footage, officers saw that the man was armed with a rifle. They searched the area for hours but couldn't find the suspect.

Officers got a warrant for the suspect charging him with stalking and loitering and prowling.

When police went to suspect’s home on Wednesday, he wasn't there. They returned to the ex-girlfriend's home to continue the search, where the suspect ambushed detectives.

Two other officers, including another Northern York County Regional detective, and a York County deputy sheriff, were critically injured.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sea Girt, NJ – July 11, 2025

The Sea Girt Police Department is proud to announce its significant role in a multi-agency investigation that has led to the indictment of five individuals connected to a high-end vehicle theft and home invasion burglary ring operating across Monmouth, Ocean, and Essex counties. Led by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the Division of Criminal Justice, the investigation disrupted a criminal network believed to be responsible for stealing approximately $700,000 worth of luxury vehicles and other valuables.

Among the charges are multiple incidents that occurred in Sea Girt:

* December 9, 2024: A 2024 BMW X3, valued at under $75,000, was stolen from a residence on Boston Boulevard.
* December 18, 2024: A 2024 BMW 769 was stolen from New York Boulevard.
* December 22, 2024: Suspects used a previously stolen vehicle to return to Sea Girt, where they broke into homes on Crescent Parkway and Washington Boulevard to steal key fobs. A 2025 Range Rover (valued at over $75,000), designer clothing, and sunglasses were stolen from Crescent Parkway. A 2020 BMW X3 was stolen from Washington Boulevard.

“This case exemplifies the critical importance of coordinated efforts between law enforcement,” said Sea Girt Police Chief Justin Macko. “The audacity and seriousness of these offenses, particularly the home invasions, presented a clear and present threat to public safety. I commend our officers for their unwavering professionalism and dedication. The collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office, New Jersey State Police, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and our neighboring law enforcement agencies to include the Wall Township Police Department was essential in successfully apprehending those responsible.”

The indicted individuals are:
* Samir White, 19, of Newark
* Quamine McDonald, 18, of Newark
* Samir Jordan, 19, of Newark
* Tysir Philips, 19, of Orange
* Tauheed McLean, 21, of Newark

They face a range of charges, including conspiracy, auto theft, home invasion burglary, and weapons offenses. Investigators allege that the group systematically targeted luxury vehicles, often breaking into homes to steal key fobs and high-value personal items.

The Sea Girt Police Department was commended by the Attorney General’s Office for its critical role in the investigation. Chief Macko gave special recognition to Sergeant Christopher Mason of th Wall Police Department and Sea Girt Police Detective Zachary Sherman, whose tireless work was vital to the case. Detective Sherman is assigned part-time to the New Jersey State Police Motor Vehicle Crimes Central Unit, which specializes in combating vehicle-related crimes throughout the state.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant by locking their homes and vehicles and reporting any suspicious activity to the Sea Girt Police Department.
