Jersey Shore Swing

Jersey Shore Swing Lindy hop is a partnered, improvised swing dance that originated in the late 1920's and early 1930's. Lindy Hop is the authentic American Swing dance.

It's danced to a variety of jazz music, and can vary wildly in tempo. There is a constant rhythmic 8-count "pulse" that you feel in your bones. It is an unabashedly joyful dance, with a solid, flowing style that closely reflects its music -- from the late 20's hot Jazz to the early 40's Big Bands. Just as Jazz combines European and African musical origins, Lindy Hop draws on African and European dance traditions.

Today may be the only day to sign up for Frankie 100 http://frankie100.com/ the week long birthday celebration of the Ambassador to Lindy Hop, Frankie Manning whose birthday will now be World Lindy Hop Day. Registration starts at 5PM. It is an expensive event particularly for those who, as Sho would say, have not drunk the Kool Aid yet.

On a personal note, I regret that I passed on a couple of opportunities to take lessons from Frankie before he passed away. If I knew then, what I know now I was fortunate to attend Frankie 95 and was blown away. I never met the man, but I continue to be influenced by the fun and joy that he infused into the Lindy Hop community.

Cablevision's Neghborhood Journal will be airing a segment on Lindy Hop at the Jersey Shore. The show will airing every day at 7PM for 2 weeks starting Monday 2/20. The show airs on Optimum Ch. 78 or, in some areas, on Ch. 118. Check it out!
