🏆 A trophy is just a trophy.

What matters is the group of young people standing behind it.

Earlier this spring, the LUCHA Club at Mount Vernon School District Mount Vernon High School stepped up in a big way to support the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, collecting an incredible 661 pounds of peanut butter for local food banks. This week, we had the opportunity to present them with the Peanut Butter Cup and celebrate their accomplishment.

Looking at this photo, it's hard not to feel optimistic about the future of our community.

These students saw a need and responded. They organized, recruited, inspired, and delivered. Their efforts will help stock local food banks and put food on the tables of families throughout our valley.

The members of Latinx Unidos Con Honor y Amistad (LUCHA) remind us that leadership isn't about titles or recognition. It's about service to others and a willingness to make your community better than you found it.

To the students, faculty advisors, families, and everyone who supported this effort: thank you.

Your community is stronger because of you.

🏆🥜 Congratulations to Mount Vernon School District Mount Vernon High School's LUCHA Club! 🥜🏆

Today, we are proud to recognize the recipients of the 2026 Peanut Butter Cup: Latinx Unidos Con Honor y Amistad (L.U.C.H.A.) at Mount Vernon High School WA.

With an incredible 661 pounds of peanut butter collected, the club set a new Peanut Butter Challenge record and helped ensure local food banks are stocked with one of their most requested items.

But what these students accomplished goes far beyond a number on a scale.

Throughout this challenge, they demonstrated leadership, compassion, organization, and a genuine commitment to serving others. They inspired classmates, staff, families, and community members to come together in support of neighbors facing food insecurity.

These high school students are our future community leaders, volunteers, advocates, and public servants. The example they set reminds us that positive change doesn't require a title or position—just a willingness to step forward and help.

While we know they didn't do it for the recognition, Northsound Branch 450 wanted to take a moment to celebrate the selflessness, generosity, and friendly competitive spirit that made this year's Peanut Butter Challenge such a success.

Your community is grateful. Your local food banks are grateful. And we are grateful.

Thank you, LUCHA Club, for showing all of us what leadership in action looks like. ❤️

During Northsound Branch 450 Letter Carrier Appreciation Week, I hope our community takes a moment to recognize the extraordinary public service provided by letter carriers across Whatcom and Skagit counties.

This year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive demonstrated exactly what that service looks like. Letter carriers in Bellingham collected 47,691 pounds of food for local families in need. Mount Vernon carriers collected approximately 19,055 pounds, and the Burlington Carrier Annex collected approximately 11,338 pounds, bringing the regional total to nearly 78,000 pounds of food collected in a single day.

These numbers reflect more than donations. They represent neighbors helping neighbors through one of the largest community service efforts in the country. Letter carriers do far more than deliver mail. We deliver medications, ballots, and essential communication while maintaining daily connections with the communities we serve.

The current National Association of Letter Carriers and U.S. Postal Service National Agreement expires May 22, 2026. Regardless of ongoing negotiations, letter carriers will continue showing up every day, committed to serving the public with professionalism and dedication.

I am proud of the work our carriers do both on and off the clock, and grateful for the incredible public support that makes efforts like Stamp Out Hunger possible.

The donations keep arriving ❤️📬

Even after Food Drive Day, the generosity from our community continues to pour in — and we want to give a very special shout-out and thank you to United Steelworkers USW Local 12-591.

During bargaining, USW members collected food in preparation for any potential strike actions within their local union. With bargaining now concluded, the union made the decision to donate that food to the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive instead.

That is solidarity. That is labor standing shoulder-to-shoulder with labor.

We are incredibly grateful for the support and partnership from USW Local 12-591 and all of the unions, volunteers, students, and community members who helped make this year’s drive such a success.

The food drive may have officially ended, but the spirit behind it is still going strong 💪💛

Thank you to the National Association of Letter Carriers and for crushing yet another Stamp Out Hunger! If you saw yellow bags of food on mailboxes, it was because our local letter carriers collected tens of thousands of pounds of food, on top of their daily work. Here is an inside look at this community's donated food in bins ready to be sorted by CTK's indomitable team of volunteers.
