Washington’s Initiative 2117 is problematic for several reasons, particularly because it seeks to repeal the state’s 2021 Climate Commitment Act (CCA). The CCA is pivotal in capping carbon emissions and funding programs that support environmental protection, clean energy projects, and public health initiatives. By eliminating the CCA, I-2117 would undercut progress on reducing air and water pollution, halt critical funding for clean energy jobs, and jeopardize programs aimed at wildfire resilience, salmon recovery, and electric vehicle infrastructure. Additionally, repealing the act won’t guarantee lower consumer prices, and it benefits polluters at the expense of Washington’s residents .
Voting “No” on I-2117 would ensure continued investment in clean energy and environmental protections that benefit the state long-term.
