Strategic Goals:
As Whatcom Taking Action strives to promote the well-being of CYSHCN, the well-being of the community as a whole is also strengthened. The following goals are relevant to both CYSHCN and to our entire community. To facilitate family and community strength and wellness
o Develop community-wide services to promote wellness and healthy development of children
o Support and promote th

e medical home model of health care for children and families in our community
o Support a community standard of universal inclusion
o Promote and support the parent/family role in the care and nurturing of their child
To improve family and community awareness of and access to local and regional services
o Be a resource to the community regarding services for children and youth with special health care needs
o Offer relevant educational and support programs
o Ensure early and timely screening and intervention of services
To enhance working relationships between community agencies providing services
o Promote sharing of information and resources among health, social, and education professionals serving CYSHCN in our community
o Utilize a team approach in working with community professionals
o Improve ease of communication between agency participants and professionals
To increase efficiency through decreased service fragmentation and duplication
o Co-locate and integrate services in a community-based setting
o Actively promote coordination of services, including services provided outside the setting
o Maximize the use of a central client record system
To provide efficient and cost-effective services
o Co-locate and integrate services to help ease the mental, emotional, physical and financial burdens for families
o Coordinate appointment scheduling when possible to decrease parental time away from work, transportation costs, and sibling childcare costs when possible
o Facilitate shared staffing by community agencies
To provide family-centered services
o Partner with parents/caregivers recognizing the central role of the family in the lives of CYSHCN
o Recognize and address the unique basic needs of families
o Support and advocate for families recognizing their key role in their child’s well-being
o Conduct periodic reassessment to adjust service plans as indicated with active involvement of the family and their needs
To recognize and respond to the unmet needs of children and families
o Develop a plan for meeting needs without primary concern for the mechanisms of payment
o Organize community resources to work together to address needs
o Identify service gaps and address accordingly

There is now one ABA Intake Form to fill out for all Whatcom County ABA service providers! You no longer have to fill out different lengthy intake forms for each ABA provider. If your child has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), OR if s/he is on a waiting list or has an appointment for an autism evaluation, you can fill out this one form and make copies to send to any/all of the Whatcom County ABA providers to get on their waiting lists.
