Not sure how many of you are aware that we still have a local community acupuncture clinic in Bellingham. While we miss Ed Layton, Matthew Stuckey is doing a great job at Bellingham Community Acupuncture. They are closed during this current health crisis, but are offering a 5 visit for $99 special (one per person) to help them with cash flow. If you have been thinking about trying acupuncture (we have seen lots of folks benefit from it) or just want to get back into a regular schedule of treatments, NOW is a great time to support a local health practitioner and save some money. https://www.bhamcommunityacupuncture.com/

Hope you are staying calm and washing your hands!! Just a follow-up to everyone that we are not having our BGIG coffee this month (tomorrow). Please know that BGIG is doing everything that it can to support knowledge and understanding in reference to preventing the spread of CoVid-19. We would encourage all our members to stay home, enjoy a nice GF meal and watch a great movie (or read a good book!) what about that cleaning you have been promising yourself to get to?? now is a great time . . . to tackle those home organization projects that you can always talk yourself out of doing!!

I love finding articles that give us hope. Sometimes it is about making better dietary choices, other times how to be a happier person. But, an interesting "read" always peaks my curiousity, invites conversation with friends (or folks standing in the grocery line next to me, LOL!) Check out this one "The Explosive Science of Epigenetics
The health choices you make today could affect the expression of your kids’ (and grandkids’) DNA — and maybe their risk for disease" link -

Valentine's day is coming, but I don't need an excuse to buy chocolate. Especially not when it's a good price and "fair trade, organic" Check out Grocery Outlet this week! These chocolate chips are just 99 cents for 9 ounces. Hard to beat the price. If you are wanting to make chocolates for your Valentine, this would work perfectly and you wouldn't have to chop up a Trader Joe's Pound plus bar! Remember, limited amounts of dark chocolate (1oz. or less per day) is really GOOD for you 😋

Continuing Ed Class at Whatcom Comm. College - GF Mediterranean Dinner with Samantha Ferraro. Ms. Ferraro is the author of "The Weeknight Mediterranean Kitchen". Class is one session on Wed. Jan. 22, 6:30-9pm at the Downtown Co-op Connections building.
This is a great opportunity to be introduced to the Mediterranean diet (touted as "the best" for health for the past thirty years!) in an entirely GF way . . . (many times MD recipes call for wheat or barley) - link to WCC info & registration -

Samantha Ferraro shares an array of gluten-free Mediterranean dishes, including Turkish lentil soup with mint and lemon; chicken shawarma with herb green tahini sauce; Israeli chopped salad; and jeweled cauliflower rice. Just in time for our New Years festivities - a reminder that inflammation is the source of most age related (and probably all) disease! I read the entire article in the NY Time but was most struck by the closing statement: “a leaky gut that lets bacteria into circulation is very pro-inflammatory,” Dr. Kritchevsky said. (article link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK493173/)
WOW! just another reminder that a "naturally GF diet" is a great choice. So, before you grab that extra box of cookies for the party - think about some nice raw nuts (you can even dip them in dark chocolate!)
Happy New Year to everyone, hoping for a year of "clearer vision"

Inflammation is part of the body's defense mechanism. It is the process by which the immune system recognizes and removes harmful stimuli and begins the healing process. There are generally two types of inflammation: acute and chronic inflammation.[1][2][3]
