Meet one of our board of advisors, MAJ Leuthner is originally from Conyers, Georgia, and is a 2001 graduate of North Georgia College and State University with a BBA in Finance. He enlisted in the Army in 2003 and received his commission as an Infantry Officer from OCS in the fall of that year.
After completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, and Ranger School, he served as an Infantry Platoon Leader, Infantry Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Assistant S3 while assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment in Baumholder, Germany. MAJ Leuthner also served as a Long-Range Surveillance (LRS) Platoon Leader in E/51st IN (LRS) (ABN) during a yearlong combat rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After completion of the Maneuver Captains Career Course and the Special Forces Qualification Course, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Okinawa, Japan. MAJ Leuthner served as the Detachment Commander for ODAs 1123 and 1136, as well as the Charlie Company Executive Officer. After departing Okinawa, MAJ Leuthner commanded Alpha Company, Special Operations Recruiting Battalion (SORB) before attending the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA. In December 2015, he graduated from NPS with an MS in Defense Analysis.
MAJ Leuthner returned to Okinawa to command Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) and serve as the Battalion Operations Officer. He then served as the Joint Operations Center (JOC) Director and Chief of Current Operations for Special Operations Command, Pacific (SOCPAC), based in Hawaii, before assuming leadership of the INDOPACOM Augmentation Team – Philippines where he worked in US Embassy Manila for over a year during the COVID pandemic. MAJ Leuthner is currently the Chief of the Exercises, Experiments, and Engagements Division at SOCPAC.
