So…we have been planning out the Wheellab Explorers program for over 4 years now. We have attempted multiple grants to make it happen with no avail. Patience and determination pays off though. Thank you to the Best Starts for Kids King County grant and Schools Out Washington for giving us the opportunity to develop a program for youth that is unique, sustainable and an amazing leadership opportunity. Thank you to the Knapp family for being our test subjects. It was a great experience and we learned a lot about our gear, curriculum and how sometimes you just have to pivot. We are very excited to make this program happen for future youth at WheelLab. Here’s to the bright future of WL Explorers! Just the beginning.

Had an awesome time with the Kidsquest museum summer camp! We did the create a bike program with them all week and built some really creative things, including our newest bmx build inspired by the youth attending. We even built a chair!  Super fun time and had lots of requests to get rides in the rickshaw at the end.

Had an amazing time with this group at build a bike camp. They worked really hard through the heat, thunderstorms and smoke to finish their bikes on time for ride day today. Super fun ride! No crashes and lots of smiles. Great day for a ride! Got to enjoy some slurpees afterwards. We had 11 builders with maybe a few familiar faces. Excited for my son and nephews to get the BAB experience. Now they can tune their own bikes at home! 😉

These are the most recent graduates from Build a Bike spring 2026. I can’t believe WheelLab has been offering 10 years of programs to youth who need it most. That’s over 50 program opportunities, 550 youth in programs, and 2300 bicycles saved from the landfill. Been a long/fun road and we still have miles to ride. Thanks to all who have supported over the years. Here’s to another 10!
