Heart Attack vs. Cardiac Arrest– Do you know the difference? During CPR & AED Awareness Week, here’s what everyone should know:

🫀 A heart attack happens when blood flow to the heart is blocked — the person may still be awake and talking.
⚡ Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops — the person collapses and becomes unresponsive.
‼️ Both require an immediate call to 911!

In an emergency, every second counts. Learn lifesaving skills by taking an upcoming CPR/AED & First Aid training class at https://www.mediconefoundation.org/programs/cpr/

Next week is CPR Week and there’s no better time to learn the skills that could help save a life. ❤️

Some of the hardest calls in EMS involve children and families.

In those moments, fire and EMS professionals are asked to bring not only skill and experience, but calm, compassion, and reassurance during incredibly difficult situations.

This EMS Week, we recognize the people who care for our communities during life’s most emotional moments.

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming more than 140 donors, Fire Chiefs, EMS leaders, paramedic students, survivors, and community partners to our Chief’s Circle Appreciation Luncheon. It was a powerful reminder of what makes this region’s EMS system so extraordinary: collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to excellence in patient care.

A highlight of the afternoon was an incredible presentation from Dr. John Scott on ECMO and how synergy across EMS and hospital systems results in lives saved. Through two powerful patient stories involving critical medical emergencies, Dr. Scott shared how the outcomes we see in our region are possible because of the unique way our system is built. Highly trained paramedics work in close partnership with physician-led teams and receive advanced instruction directly from experts in these critical fields, helping provide the best possible care from the very first moments of a call. This level of training is only possible because of the generous support of the Medic One Foundation community.

To our generous donors, thank you. Today was about celebrating you and the impact your support has on lives saved across our region every single day.

Becoming a paramedic takes months of hands-on training, clinical experience, classroom learning, and teamwork.

Behind every confident response in the field is a strong foundation built through education and preparation.

Today we recognize the students, instructors, physicians, and agencies committed to training the next generation of EMS professionals.

EMS Week is a time to recognize the people who respond when our communities need help most.

Many of us have a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, nurse, physician, or first responder who has impacted our lives or the lives of someone we love.

This week, we invite you to help us recognize them.

Share a story, a memory, or simply tag a first responder in the comments to thank them for the work they do every day.

Why do they do this work? It’s not for the recognition. It’s not because it’s easy.

It’s because in someone’s worst moment, they can make a difference.

During EMS Week, we’re sharing the voices of the paramedics behind the scenes—what drives them, what stays with them, and why they keep showing up.

This is the heart of Medic One.
