Happy New Year!

2024 marks 19 years we have spent in Sri Lanka!

This months food bundles for the families of young children at HOPE Preschool were much needed. As inflation and taxes in Sri Lanka continue to increase it’s the poorest that are challenged to put food on the table for their children. Thanks to our donors for making the New Year a little less stressful for parents with young children and for supplying nutrition to growing children. Many thanks! πŸ™πŸ»

This is unfortunately why we have had to shift our efforts and focus on the basics. Our education and environmental initiatives have taken a backseat for the time being, feeding young children is now the priority.

C.O.L.O.R. has continued to make food donations to families with young children. The Sri Lankan New Year (in April) is a time of gathering and celebration with family. The food donations at HOPE preschool were greatly appreciated and needed. Food is so costly, it’s very common for families to be skipping meals. The families wished to express their gratitude and thanks.

If you build it they will come…..

Over the last several years we have supported the Baranasuriya Home for handicapped boys. In this time, we have refurbished beds and sleeping quarters, added a classroom, managed the grounds to keep the mosquitos at bay, helped with medical equipment, holiday gifts, and provided food and cooking fuel. As the economic downturn in Sri Lanka continues more and more children, especially those with special needs, are entering the system needing care. This spring, C.O.L.O.R. has been helping to further expand the facilities and offer the children and staff quality quarters having refurbished additional rooms, removing mould, plastering, painting, and providing additional beds. This latest update will accommodate all of the new children entering the home and the wonderful staff caring for them, they even have one bed to spare for the moment. Thanks to all who help through their generous donations, the impact on these kids lives is immeasurable. πŸ™πŸ»

Food! Food! Food!

In our nearly 18 years of experience in Sri Lanka there has never been a greater need for food donations, not during the civil war or times of disasters have we dealt with this level of food insecurity. Food costs are at close to 100% inflation, sometimes higher for certain items. The average Sri Lankan is skipping at least one meal daily. We are focusing food donations on households with young children and group homes that are dependent on donations. Dry goods, cooking oil, milk powder, tea and fresh vegetables are given out every few weeks. Thanks to all that are helping during this difficult time.
