Social Media Safety tip for upcoming 1st Day of School excitement!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL PHOTOS: THINK BEFORE YOU SHARE!

As the new school year kicks off, many parents capture those precious “first day” moments. But before you post that adorable photo, take a moment to think about what’s really being shared.

Back-to-school pics can unintentionally reveal personal info that puts your child at risk. Even with tight privacy settings, it's smart to limit what details go public.

🚫 What NOT to Share in Back-to-School Photos:
❌ School name or logo
❌ Age or birthday
❌ Teacher’s name or grade level
❌ Identifying features (height, weight, etc.)
❌ Personal details that could relate to passwords/security questions

Safety Tip:
If your child’s sign, backpack, or clothing includes sensitive info, blur it out or cover it up before posting. A little caution goes a long way in keeping your family safe.

🕙 Starts TONIGHT @ 11:30 p.m., ends 4 a.m. Monday
🚧 Exits closed: Coal Creek Pkwy (Exit 10) to NE 30th St. (Exit 6)
➡️ Detour: Coal Creek Pkwy--> Duvall Ave NE-->Sunset Blvd NE

SB 405 closures aren't as bad as NB closures, but it's still smart to plan to either stay home or leave extra time to get out to the freeway.

If you're hunkering down on the hill on Sunday then walk, bike, roll, or drive over to Newport Hills Woodlawn Park picnic shelter for Music Nite featuring NH neighbors The DaddyOs. They'll be playing 5-7 p.m. and said they'd give periodic updates on the Seahawks game . Parking is limited on-site but there's plenty of parking nextdoor at Ringdall MS.

🕙 Started 11:30 p.m. Friday, ends 4 a.m. Monday

🚧 Exits closed between N Southport Dr/Sunset Blvd (Exit 5) to Coal Creek Pkwy (Exit 10)

➡️Detour: Sunset Blvd NE--> Duvall Ave NE --> Coal Creek Pkwy

NORTHBOUND CLOSURES impact Newport Hills the most, especially in the NW section of the neighborhood (north of SE 60th, west of 119th Ave SE). During previous NB closures cut-thru traffic has clogged our streets, leaving NH residents unable to leave their homes.

If you witness dangerous traffic situations, including aggressive maneuvers by frustrated drivers, please call the BPD non-emergency line to report it and ask for traffic mitigation: (425) 577-5656 (NORCOM)

REMINDER: Ice Cream Social 2-4 p.m. today!

We know the World Cup Final starts at noon- if you're a soccer fan then head over to the Woodlawn Park picnic shelter after the game.

If soccer's not your thing then come at 2.

Cool treats, lawn games, temporary tattoos, and nice neighbors!

Member households receive 2 free tickets. Additional tickets & tickets for non-members= $1. We'll serve until we're out of ice cream.

Please join the NHCC Board for an afternoon of cool treats, great conversations with neighbors, and lawn games.

Members will be served first, then non-members have an opportunity to purchase an ice cream for $1 each. We will serve until we run out of ice cream.

* If you’re not already a member you can pay the $10 annual dues at the Membership table. Dues help the club fund our many events, pay for our communications, and cover the cost of our insurance and other expenses. We appreciate your support!

On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate its Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of American independence. This milestone commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, marking the birth of a new nation.

The 250th anniversary is expected to be one of the largest national commemorations in U.S. history. Through the America250 initiative, communities across the country are organizing events that encourage Americans to reflect on their history, honor past generations, and consider the future of the nation.

An email will be sent to CoB Transportation & BPD asking for mitigations to keep cut-thru traffic out of the neighborhood but NHCC advocacy has worked only 1x previously. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞, otherwise we're looking at a traffic nightmare on the hill two weekends in a row.

Feel free to send your own request for mitigation, more requests= gets City Hall's attention.

All SB lanes will be closed between Exit 10 (Coal Creek Pkwy SE) and Exit 6 (NE 30th St) from Friday, May 8 at 11:30 p.m. through Monday, May 11 at 4:00 a.m.
