Bellevue Botanical Garden Society

Bellevue Botanical Garden Society The Bellevue Botanical Garden Society works in partnership with the City of Bellevue to achieve the Bellevue Botanical Garden’s mission.

The nonprofit Bellevue Botanical Garden Society cultivates the bond between plants and people, raising funds to support the Garden’s physical growth and development, and providing educational programs and community events. Our role is to raise funds, support the Garden’s physical growth and development, and provide a broad range of programs and events designed to engage, inspire and inform Garden

visitors. We rely on donations, memberships, special events and sponsorships to support the free and low-cost educational programs for children and adults that enrich our community.

This occasional visitor to the Native Discovery Garden was recently seen in the pond there. The Green Heron tends to be solitary and secretive and is one of the few tool using birds.

"From a distance, the Green Heron is a dark, stocky bird hunched on slender yellow legs at the water’s edge, often hidden behind a tangle of leaves. Seen up close, it is a striking bird with a velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, and a dark cap often raised into a short crest. These small herons crouch patiently to surprise fish with a sn**ch of their daggerlike bill. They sometimes lure in fish using small items such as twigs or insects as bait." from CornellLab All About Birds

Join us this Sunday for a special screening of The Lost Bird Project documentary followed by a Q&A session with artist Todd McGrain. We have been pleased to host this rotating exhibition the Lost Bird Project sculptures for the last year and half. The five sculptures represent bird species that have all become extinct in modern times.

In addition to the sculptures, we have amazing prints from the Lost Bird Project on view in the gallery space through Sunday. The prints are available for purchase framed or unframed.

Register on our website bellevuebotanical.org to attend the screening and Q&A session with Todd. Tickets are $10 a person.
