Every day, members and staff work side by side to make decisions, solve problems, build relationships, and create opportunities for growth.

Whether it's helping run daily Clubhouse operations, welcoming new members, contributing to meaningful work, or shaping the future of their Clubhouse, members have a voice and a vital role in our community.

HERO House NW sent a team to Washington, D.C. this week advocating for greater federal recognition of the Clubhouse model. Our leadership focus is to promote the role Clubhouses play in helping people living with serious mental illness build meaningful, connected lives.

Our vision extends far beyond the communities we serve today. We believe every person should have access to a place where they are known, needed, and supported in pursuing employment, education, housing, relationships, and greater independence.

That means working toward a future where every community has access to a Clubhouse.

Federal awareness and support can help make that vision possible by strengthening partnerships, expanding access, and ensuring the Clubhouse model is understood as an important part of the behavioral health continuum.

We’re proud to have HERO House NW represented in D.C. and grateful for the opportunity to help elevate the voices of Clubhouse members, staff, and communities nationwide.

This week, HERO House NW was on Capitol Hill alongside Clubhouse International - ICCD and Fountain House United, meeting with the offices of Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Rep. Adam Smith and Congresswoman Suzan DelBene to advocate for sustainable federal funding for Clubhouses.

Our message was clear: people living with serious mental illness deserve access to community, meaningful opportunities, and support to build the lives they choose.

At our Clubhouses in Bellevue, Seattle, Everett, and Skagit, this means opportunities to pursue employment, secure housing, continue education, and build relationships that break through isolation. Reliable funding helps ensure these opportunities remain available—and reach more people.

Together, we advocated for:

• Dedicated, sustainable federal funding for the Clubhouse model.
• Investment to expand Clubhouses into communities that lack access.
• Support for staff, training, and evaluation to strengthen programs and demonstrate outcomes.
• Growing the Congressional Clubhouse Caucus to build lasting congressional support.

Thank you to Washington’s congressional delegation and their staff for meeting with us, and to our national partners for bringing our collective voices to Capitol Hill.

Behind the scenes at the Clubhouse 💚

What happens behind the scenes at HERO House NW? It’s probably not what you think.

It’s members and staff working side by side to make the Clubhouse run. Preparing meals. Answering phones. Planning activities. Reaching out to members we haven’t seen in a while. Working toward employment and education goals. Solving problems together. And doing the hundreds of small things that turn a building into a community.

At a Clubhouse, relationships aren’t something that happens after the work is done. Relationships are built through the work.

Members are needed, their contributions matter, and staff work alongside them—not simply for them. Day after day, that shared effort creates opportunities for connection, confidence, purpose, and belonging.

New beginnings can start with support, connection, and someone who believes in you.

Steve works closely with Cutter, a member of our Clubhouse employment staff, as he explores opportunities and continues building toward what’s next. Their work together is a meaningful example of how support at HERO House NW can help members find encouragement, reduce stress, and move forward with hope.

As Steve shared:
“Cutter has been great, if he wasn’t there for me I’m not sure where I would be. I get so much stress relief from the clubhouse, it makes me feel good about new beginnings.”

We are proud to create a community where members can find support, meaningful relationships, and real opportunities for growth.

HERO Circle members provide reliable, ongoing support that helps sustain our Clubhouses and the opportunities created every day—from employment and education to housing support, advocacy, connection, and meaningful participation.
