We are a group of high school students who believe that the waste produced and sent mostly to landfills by schools such as ours puts too much of a strain on the environment, especially considering that most of it could be recycled or composted.

Hi everyone! Composting will be coming to IHS when school starts, but we need volunteers to help out at lunch!
Please email [email protected] or facebook message Sarah, Isaku, or Tyler if you're interested in volunteering [for community service hours!]
You've all been super supportive so far, and now it's time to make this program a reality! (:

Operation End Waste is a high school organization committed to significantly reduce the amount of lunchroom waste that is produced by Interlake everyday. I met

On July 26th, we met with Nancy Larson (manager of facilities for BSD), Maria Frieboes-Gee (new principal at Interlake), and Mr. Lowell (current assistant principal) to discuss the idea of a composting program at IHS next year.

We are pleased to announce that such a program has been approved. Next year, there will be composting at IHS.

However, it will not be funded by the district, meaning we will have to find corporate sponsorship and other sources of funding before the program can begin.

Remember, to make a difference in protecting our planet, we must start on the individual level. Turn down the heat. Turn off the water. Turn off the lights. Recycle at school. A big difference starts with these small steps.

04/23/2011

Although Green Week has ended, recycling will continue next week and into the future. Please volunteer next week to monitor a recycling bin and encourage people to recycle during lunch. Details above.

Recycle. Help your school. Help your planet. Help yourself.

04/18/2011

Tomorrow, in coordination with Green Team's Green Week, we will be beginning recycling during lunch, which will continue permanently. Please help by using the recycle bins! Thank you everybody.

On February 4th, 2011, we sorted through an entire day's worth of waste from Interlake High School's cafeteria. In the end we discovered that out of all the waste (160 lbs) that would be thrown in the trash, 48% (77 lbs) consisted of compostable food waste, and another 23% (37 lbs) consisted of paper and plastic recyclables which could be put in the existing recycling dumpster but were instead thrown away.

03/02/2011

Starting on Tuesday, March 22nd, we will be bringing compost bins into Interlake High School's Cafeteria. Help us make this campaign a success! Participate, and encourage your friends to as well! Help us End Waste.
