🎓 Both have Master’s degrees in Interpreting & Translating — Emily from Western Oregon University and Sharon from the University of Bath, England.

Here we are again, featuring yet another 🤩 superstar presenter: 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹, with a conference session titled “𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴? 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗜, 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲” 🧏

The workshop will explore the use of tools in clinical care, including and ambient scribe technology, with a focus on the risks & opportunities they create for refugee, immigrant, and migrant patients and the care teams who serve them.

James has enjoyed a lot of well-deserved recognition this year! He received the 2026 University of Washington Excellence in Global Engagement Award, one of the UW’s highest honors. 🥇

He was also recently appointed to the Fulbright Specialist Program roster in recognition of his expertise in cross-cultural public health & health education. 🙌

🤨 Translation need not be treasonous, but can it be sinful? Yasemin Alptekin is eager to help you navigate that question with her conference session ➡️ The Four S.I.N.S. of Literary Translation 😱

Yasemin is a WA State Registered Court Interpreter with over 30 years of experience in TurkishEnglish teaching, , and (literary and otherwise).

Yasemin has translated many books, including African Stories by Doris Lessing, Boom by Mark Haddon, and, most recently, a work of non-fiction called Reviving Palmyra in Multiple Dimensions.

She is also the of both a memoir and a work of YA fiction called Dehliz, which she later self-translated from her native Turkish into English as The Passage.
