Bellevue Gifted Alliance

Bellevue Gifted Alliance BellevueGifted.org is home to a number of gifted groups in Bellevue who are uniting to share information.

Bellevue Advanced Learning Alliance (BALA) is a Program of the Bellevue Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Council, comprised of volunteers whose mission is to advocate, build community, and educate on gifted issues. We have current students and families throughout the District in different programs, as well as alumni, joining together. While there are a number of viewpoints, we all agree o

n having the right support available for each student. Gifted students have a range of needs, as do families of gifted children!

Due to low literacy rates, changes to reading instruction described as the “science of reading” or “structured literacy” are rapidly being mandated in many states/districts/schools, accompanied by lengthy professional development for educators. Yet rarely acknowledged are the different needs of students who begin kindergarten already reading or students who progress more rapidly than typical once in the school setting. During this webinar, Dr. Nancy Young will provide an overview of the terms and features within her translational framework The Ladder of Reading & Writing© (2023), particularly in the context of students K-3 who are advanced in reading (AIR). This will include her summarizing the relationship between genetics and early reading, contrasting explicit instruction with implicit/statistical learning, and briefly explaining how the literacy needs of AIR students can be addressed through “acceleration” or “extended learning”. Two WA educators and reading specialists, Maria Morris and Christi Corbin, will then share with webinar attendees their respective journeys to becoming aware of, and more appropriately addressing the learning needs of, advanced readers in their school.

Is your child bright, creative, and capable—but constantly losing things, overwhelmed by clutter, or struggling to keep schoolwork organized? If you’re parenting a twice‑exceptional (2e) child, traditional organization advice often misses the mark.

Join us on March 18th on Teams where Lisa Deily, from Creative Clutter Solutions will be sharing from her toolbox of organization strategies!

This parent-centered presentation will help you understand why organization is so challenging for neurodivergent learners—and what actually helps. We’ll explore how a child’s environment impacts attention, regulation, and learning, and how small, intentional changes can make a big difference.
