Barb Ruby's passion for words started early as the editor of the Anacortes high school newspaper in 1954. After teaching English, she started writing poetry in 1964 as she raised her boys. The musicians of our youth leaving us as yesterday we learned of the death of Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac at 79. One of her finest tunes is "Over My Head." Her beautiful voice will be missed.

Some fascinating statistics from the Seattle Times about seniors and COVID in Washington State, such as:

"Persons 65-plus who are unvaccinated are 2.2 times more likely to get COVID compared with the same age group that has completed the primary series of vaccinations, according to the Washington State Department of Health. The unvaccinated in that age group are 3.7 times more likely to die of COVID compared with those 65 and up who have completed the primary vaccine series."

Individuals, health care systems and governmental entities should continue to do all they can to safeguard our most vulnerable population from COVID-19.

The Washington Park Arboretum in North Seattle is one of many Western Washington Parks that has plenty of fall and winter beauty. These photos were taken Sunday. Like the arboretum, many parks have extensive hiking trails with beautiful views and cost nothing to visit.
