Dana came to the office today and made pretty crafts with Jessica. She is one of our girls from the Home of Hope orphanage but does not live there anymore. She has since moved in with her grandmother. She goes 3-4 times a week to the office to do crafts, read stories and cooks together with Jessica and Shirley. She is a special girl with a special heart.

Happy National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival! Our staff, along with a Gongyi Alumni, went to the orphanage to celebrate both holidays. They passed out moon cakes and other round snacks.

Michelle Godard made some moon cakes but the boys and I ate them before taking any pictures🤪

The kids had a few days off and we have been enjoying all the text messages on WeChat back and forth. A lot of the older kids, who have phones, live at school and are not allowed to have their phones with them. So it was nice being able to talk daily with them.

Our older college aged kids will be starting their college careers this coming week. Please be lifting up Abby, Debbie, Eddy and Wendy. This has been something they have been striving for since the day we met them. Going to university brings a lot of pride to their family!

God bless you and thank you for the continued prayers and financial support!

Michelle and I are praying over our Chinese children and staff the prayer that Jesus prayed over His disciples in John 17. As you mostly likely know, WeChat is going to be banned/blocked this Sunday, September 20th. We will not speak against any authority as ALL authority is placed by God (Romans 13:1-2)...so please do not reply with a complaint but instead reply with a prayer.

With Wechat being blocked, Michelle and I do not know how we will communicate with our Chinese children. We use WeChat to send them encouraging messages and pictures to speak HOPE into their lives.

It seems like our Pingyu family just keeps getting hit after hit, but thankfully we have a strong and power God who helps us to stand our ground and keep our focus on Him instead of the crashing waves. Even this, we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.
Thank you for your continued prayers and we pray this prayer over you...

Numbers 6:24-26
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

September 1st is back to school day for most Chinese students. This year is our first year with university students. We have 3 students who will attend university, 6 high school students, 2 students in vocational school, 12 middle school students, and 4 primary school students. These are the children who lived with us at the Home of Hope. We also help the three new primary school aged boys who joined the orphanage after we left.
There have been 5 children who have quit school and have left the orphanage. Some quit to go work and others are in school back in their village. We are in constant communication with most of the kids and try to encourage them to do their best and let them know we love them very much and think and pray for them everyday.
With that, please pray for the kids as a eleven are starting new schools, and the government is getting more and more strict in who they help and it sounds like more changes will come to those who are left.
We praise God that our staff is so faithful and continue to reach out with hope, love and joy to these wonderful treasures!

This was my morning devotional that I wanted to share with you.

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What a time as this that we need this kind of hope...this kind of God. People are so filled with fear and rage these days that their focus on fear and anger are choking out the hope of God. The hope of God is what is going to get us through our struggles (Romans 5).
I think about our Chinese children when we first met them. Seeing the lack of hope, the lack of joy and the lack of love in their eyes. I can picture them coming to our home and the day they called us Daddy and Mommy. I remember when they first said, "I love you" back to us.
Hollie was an older child when she came so I didn't know how she would react to me smothering her with my hugs and letting her know I loved her. Michelle would hug her and kiss her cheek. I told her that I want to hug her too and that I loved her so much, but I would wait for her to hug me as I wanted her to feel comfortable. I hoped and longed for this day. Hollie was 10 when she came and she was/is very shy. We were walking down the hallway about a month after she arrived and she told me, "I love you Daddy" and reached her arms out for a hug. That was the best day ever. I swept her off her feet and gave her the biggest and longest daddy hug I could give her, one for all the days she had never been hugged by a daddy.
This is what hope is to me when I picture it. That God will sweep us off our feet and wrap His night arms around us and we can fall deep into those mighty arms and relax because we know that God has us.
