Responsible Fatherhood Initiative
The Responsible Fatherhood Initiative (RFI) is a community-based program designed to restore, equip, and empower fathers to fulfill their vital roles as providers, protectors, and nurturers. The initiative helps men strengthen three essential areas-responsible parenting, healthy relationships, and economic self-sufficiency-directly aligning with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth's statewide Responsible Fatherhood goals.
RFI offers a series of 5-6 hour interactive sessions combined with ongoing mentoring and peer-led support groups. Fathers learn practical skills in parenting, co-parenting, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and financial management. The program draws from nationally recognized, evidence-informed curricula such as 24/7 Dad, Nurturing Fathers, and InsideOut Dad, while integrating faith-based mentoring and community-centered learning that reflect the unique needs of local families.
The initiative primarily serves noncustodial, single, and young fathers who face barriers such as unemployment, strained relationships, child-support challenges, and limited access to parenting resources. Each participant receives individualized case management and connections to local partners offering employment assistance, legal guidance, housing referrals, and mental-health counseling
Through these workshops and continuing support circles, fathers build confidence, strengthen family bonds, and increase their capacity to provide both emotionally and financially. By helping men become emotionally present, economically stable, and relationally healthy, the Responsible Fatherhood Initiative not only transforms fathers' lives but also creates stronger, safer, and more resilient families and communities.
