Some of the strongest men don’t wear capes. They show up.

They show up for the early mornings, the hard conversations, the lessons that last a lifetime, and the moments nobody else sees.

Today, we celebrate fathers, father figures, mentors, and every man who has chosen love, guidance, and presence over and over again.

Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made, the wisdom you’ve shared, and the lives you’ve impacted.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at A Red Circle. ❤️

Many people know Juneteenth. Fewer know the woman who spent decades making sure the nation would remember it.

Known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth," Dr. Opal Lee dedicated her life to education, service, and preserving the story of freedom. At 90 years old, she walked 2.5 miles in communities across the country, symbolizing the 2.5 years it took for news of emancipation to reach enslaved people in Texas.

Her work helped turn a long-held community observance into a national holiday.

But her legacy is bigger than one day.

It's a reminder that progress happens because ordinary people choose to keep showing up, keep speaking up, and keep moving forward.

This Juneteenth, we honor Dr. Opal Lee and the generations of advocates, educators, and community leaders who ensure our stories are preserved and our history is remembered.

What part of Dr. Opal Lee's story stands out to you most?

Some of the best things happen when organizations come together for our community.

Thanks to Ready Readers, families visiting North County Community Nexus can now enjoy a Story Walk through the Damu Smith Liberation Garden. As children and parents explore the space, they can read, learn, and connect together along the way.

A simple walk can become a moment of imagination, conversation, and joy.

Thank you to everyone helping create welcoming spaces where learning extends beyond the classroom. ❤️

Some plants earn their place in the garden by being beautiful.

Others earn their place by being useful.
Lemon balm does both.

This fragrant member of the mint family is known for its fresh citrus scent and has been grown in home gardens for generations. People use lemon balm in all kinds of ways:

🍋 Brewed fresh into herbal tea
💧 Added to water for a light citrus flavor
🥗 Mixed into salads and summer dishes
🐝 Grown to attract bees and other pollinators
🌿 Harvested simply for its wonderful fragrance in the garden

At the Healthy Flavor Community Garden, we're growing more than food. We're growing opportunities for people to learn, taste new things, and discover plants they may have never tried before.

Have you ever used lemon balm before? What's your favorite way to enjoy it?

Want to enjoy healthy produce for yourself? Come see us at the People's Harvest Pop-Up Shop every Saturday!

A number can tell you how many. A story tells you why it matters. ❤️

In 2025, A Red Circle served 5,177 neighbors across North St. Louis County through food sovereignty, education, art, and community-building initiatives. From expanding access to fresh food to creating spaces for creativity, learning, and connection, every effort was rooted in the belief that strong communities are built together.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, partner, artist, educator, farmer, and neighbor who helped make this work possible.

As we look ahead to 2026, we're committed to continuing the work of building healthier, more connected, and more resilient communities. ♥️

Someone planted this. 👩🏾‍🌾

Not knowing which bee would land here. 🐝
Not knowing who would stop to notice.
They planted it anyway.

Healthy ecosystems are built one flower at a time. Healthy communities are built the same way. 🌸

The things that make North County stronger often start small—a garden, a helping hand, a youth program, a neighbor who cares.

This National Pollinator Month, we're celebrating the small things that help communities thrive. 🌎

Fresh out of the ground. This is what medicine looks like. 🌿

This Men's Health Month, we're talking real talk: heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in our community — and so much of it traces back to what's on the plate. The good news? Healing can start at the dinner table.

A few foods worth keeping close, brothers —
🍅 Tomatoes — lycopene, linked to prostate health
🥬 Leafy greens — for healthy blood pressure and circulation
🫐 Berries — antioxidants for the heart
🐟 Fish & omega-3s — anti-inflammatory
🌰 Beans, nuts & sweet potatoes — fiber and steady energy

But here's the truth: knowing what's good for you only matters if you can actually get to it. Fresh, whole food should be within reach for every man in North County — not a luxury. That's Food Sovereignty, and that's the work. ♥️

Want to put it on your plate? Come through to the People's Harvest Pop-Up this Saturday, June 6 (10:30AM–5:30PM) at the North County Community Nexus. Fresh veggies, good food, live music and good people. 🍅

Eat the greens. Move your body. Take care of you.

Strong communities start with strong local food systems.

When local farmers have opportunities to grow, community markets create connections, families can access fresh food, and neighbors come together to learn and share knowledge, entire communities benefit.

That's what food sovereignty looks like in action.

At A Red Circle, we're building community in North County through food sovereignty, education, and art by investing in the people, places, and partnerships that make healthy food more accessible close to home.

Because stronger local food systems help communities thrive.

Every harvest carries a story. 🌾

In 1920, Black farmers made up about 14% of all growers in the U.S. Today, due to generations of systemic barriers and forced land loss, that number is less than 2%.

Yet, against these massive odds, the legacy of Black agriculturalists remains a powerful cornerstone of our communities. Black farmers have cultivated land, fed families, passed down invaluable knowledge, and preserved traditions for generations.

Their work is often measured in crops and yields, but their true impact reaches much deeper...into our families, our neighborhoods, and the future of a more equitable food system.

When we support Black-led agriculture and urban farming initiatives, we aren't just buying fresh produce. We are actively investing in:
✊🏽 Food sovereignty
🌱 Land retention
💪🏾 Community health

Today, and every day, we’re honoring the resilience, dedication, and deep-rooted legacy of Black farmers whose contributions keep us nourished.

Thank you for the work you do, the knowledge you share, and the future you keep growing.
