Artists of the Black Hills was founded in 2005 as an organization of professional artists, artisans, and galleries with a common goal of establishing the Black Hills region as a prime source for art of the highest quality. In addition, we work with regional arts organizations, state agencies, and commercial entities to foster greater growth and appreciation of the Black Hills as an art center.
Art in the Black Hills is as diverse as the geography and the climate. The work we make here, both traditional and contemporary, is rooted in our collective sense of place, rather than united by any similar style or philosophy of art. Explore the artist members on our website here.
Membership is open to those artists whose work demonstrates a consistently superior level of competence in their chosen medium. Residency in the Black Hills region is not a requirement for membership, but a history of a presence in the area through gallery or museum showings, or other public installations is necessary. Prospective members may request an application from the Membership committee and learn more here.
