Next up in our Meet the Family series is Shadowfax, better known around here as Shadow. 🤍

Shadow's story is a hard one to tell.

For nearly 16 years, this beautiful Trakehner spent the majority of his life confined to a small area/stall, receiving just enough care to keep him alive. When we met him at 20 years old, he was severely emaciated, had almost no muscle, carried a significant parasite load, and had very little experience simply being a horse.

Today, Shadow is safe at Iron Giants and still very much in rehabilitation. He's gaining weight and strength, building a foundation through training and trust, meeting his herd over the fence, and discovering a whole new world that most horses experience long before his age.

He's also become our resident Sour Patch Kid. 😂 One minute he's spicy and deeply offended that you've asked him to do...well...anything, and the next this enormous horse is cuddling up behind a tiny human because he witnessed an acorn for the first time.

When watching his majestic movement and gorgeous floating trot...you quickly understand exactly why we named him Shadowfax. 🤍

There is so much more to this boy than the condition he came to us in, and we're excited for you to get to know him.

Come meet Shadow and read his full story here:

We have so many stories to tell❤️

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be working on something we've wanted to do for a long time: sharing the full stories of each of the animals who have come home to Iron Giants.

Some came to us with only minutes left. Some came carrying years of neglect or trauma. Some needed months of rehabilitation, while others simply needed a safe place to land.

Every one of them has a story, and we want you to know the animals you're helping us fight for, not just their names and pictures.

We're starting with one of our very first rescues, our alpha mare, Mulan, better known around here as Moo🐴

Moo had just 23 minutes left when we rescued her out of a Texas kill pen, and her story is a perfect example of why not all horses get sent to slaughter due to health or behavioral reasons; sometimes a good horse just ends up in a very bad situation.

We'll be introducing you to a new member of the Iron Giants family one at a time over the next few weeks. ❤️

For now, come meet our Moo and read her full story below.

We don't ask often, but this angel has been living rent free in my mind for weeks. I keep thinking someone will save her, but no one has.

They are charging $3,400 in bail and transport fees to keep her from an unimaginable and BRUTAL ending.

The greed in this industry makes me sick, and days like this make our mission so heartbreaking 😞

We're doing our best to get you home, angel.

If anyone feels led to help us rescue this sweet, sweet baby, we can bring her home 🙏

HELP US FIND FRANKIE HIS PERSON 🐾🤍

We were recently contacted by Frankie’s family asking if we could help find this handsome boy the right home. We don’t normally do dog placements, but they are running out of options, and we’d really love to help keep Frankie out of the shelter system.

We also want to be completely transparent about who Frankie is, because finding the right home matters so much more than simply finding a home.

Frankie is a sweet, playful boy with a lot of strength. He loves people, but he can be a little playfully mouthy/nippy when he gets excited. He has never shown aggression, but because of his size, strength, and play style, we don’t think a home with young children would be the best fit.

He is also very strong on a leash and likes to pull, so he needs someone physically capable of handling him and ideally willing to continue working with him on leash manners. Because of this, he probably isn’t the best match for an elderly owner either.

As far as other dogs, Frankie can do well with larger dogs, but he is not a good fit for a home with small dogs.

We know that narrows down his options. But somewhere out there is exactly the kind of home Frankie needs: someone comfortable with a strong dog, who understands that a little training and structure can go a long way, and who can give this sweet boy a chance.

His family desperately wants to avoid surrendering him to a shelter, where a dog with more specific placement needs can have a much harder time finding his way back out.

Frankie doesn’t need just anybody. He needs the RIGHT somebody. 🤍

If you think that might be you, please message us.

And even if you can’t take Frankie, PLEASE SHARE.

His person may simply be one share away.

Serious inquiries only. We want to make sure Frankie and his future family are truly a good match.

This verse has become so real to us over the past year ❤️

Looking back, I can see how many times God was preparing us long before we ever realized it. The hard seasons. The waiting. The lessons in obedience. The moments that felt small or even insignificant.

None of it was wasted.

Every struggle leading up to this season. Every horse He entrusted to us. Every dollar donated. Every volunteer. Every child to come through our gates. Every opportunity to serve... each one has been a chance to learn how to steward His blessings well.

It's easy to pray for more. More land. More resources. More horses rescued. More lives changed. But God is continually reminding us that faithfulness comes first, and sometimes we're just not ready for the vision we so desperately cling to.

If we can't steward the little with gratitude, wisdom, and obedience, why would He entrust us with more?

We're far from perfect, but we're learning that every trial is preparation, every season has purpose, and every blessing, no matter how small, is something to care for as if it belongs to Him... because it does.

My prayer is that we never become so focused on what's next that we miss being faithful with what God has already placed in our hands.

"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much..." — Luke 16:10
