Mountain Hospice Compassionate care of terminally ill patients, their families, and pets. Mountain Hospice was established in 1991.

It was originally named “The Hospice of Barbour County”, but in 1994, the name was changed to Mountain Hospice. Mountain Hospice was started in Barbour County by a caring group of citizens who recognized the people in their community who were dying of non-curable illnesses in their homes, in hospitals, often left alone, and isolated. These caring people united to meet this need and became the founders of our organization. Through their hard work and constant nurturing, Mountain Hospice grew and expanded to provide hospice services to a growing number of terminally-ill patients and their families. The relentless efforts of the founders and volunteers generated funds and donations to help this organization develop and flourish into one of the most outstanding hospices in the state. The positive comments we receive about our staff reflect our long standing goal - to provide “Comfort and Compassion When It’s Needed Most”. The support we give to hospice patients has not only been a great asset to the Barbour County community but has been made available to residents in other areas. Since 1994, our hospice services have been added to six more counties: Mineral, Randolph, Tucker, Pendleton, Pocahontas, and Grant Counties. Services Include:

•Physician Directed Care
•Professional Nursing
•24-Hour bed side care when needed
•Social work and counseling services
•Home health aides
•Chaplain for spiritual care
•Physical, speech, and occupational therapy as appropriate
•Medical supplies and equipment
•Short-term inpatient care for respite or symptom management
•Medications related to terminal illness
•Support for patients and their loved ones
•Bereavement counseling
•Consultations about ethical issues
•Volunteer assistance

What better way to enjoy the Mountain State Forest Festival Grand Feature Parade than with our employees and their families on the deck of our Elkins office? 🥁🏠
Our staff gathered together to enjoy the festival fun from the front steps of our office, and this is a tradition we look forward to continuing for years to come. 🎡
Our team does such meaningful work, so it’s always special to see them take some time to relax, enjoy the festivities and make memories together. We truly are a family here at Mountain Hospice. 💚

In celebration of the Barbour County Fair beginning today, we’re reminded to honor our roots and the history of Mountain Hospice. Our organization began in the heart of Belington in 1991.

This year, the Barbour County Fair celebrates 50 years of bringing our community together, and we’re grateful to have been part of that community for so many years. ❤️

Our roots run deep, but our care runs deeper. We’re proud to be part of the roots that make Barbour County home to so many wonderful people.

Come see us at the fair on September 1 for Senior Day from 10AM-3PM! Stop by our table, say hello, and learn more about Mountain Hospice and how we support the communities we serve.

As we near the end of the 2026 Summer Concert Series hosted by Our Town Inc., we want to say thank you to everyone who has joined us for the fun this summer! We’re proud to support this community series as a sponsor and want to give a special shoutout to the team at Our Town Inc. for all the hard work they put into bringing these events to our community. ❤️

Don't worry though, the fun isn’t over yet! 🎶 There’s still one concert left! Fleetwood's Heart will be playing on August 28th! Come out and enjoy the last show of the series.

Taking time to recognize the businesses that bring the Summer Concert Season to our community.

We’ve been busy this summer! Our employees have been finding all sorts of ways to get involved in community events and show just how much we love supporting the communities we serve.
Our Director of HR, Tiffany, spent the weekend with her family helping run registration for the Randolph County Fair Car Show! We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of a fun weekend celebrating our community (and the awesome cars that roam the towns we care for!)🚗❤️

Sometimes, the best way to understand what we do is to hear it from a family who experienced it firsthand. ❤️
The Ware family graciously shared their story and what their experience with Mountain Hospice meant to their family. We’re incredibly grateful they trusted us to be part of such an important chapter in their lives.
If you or someone you love could benefit from our services at Mountain Hospice, give us a call at 304-823-3922. We are here 24/7, 365 days a year.
