770 miles. Four days. One rider. One mission.

Meet Steve, an active-duty member of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community who is taking on an extraordinary challenge in support of Big Sky Bravery and the warriors and families we proudly serve.

From November 2–5, Steve will ride 770 miles across North Carolina, tackling an incredible 42,477 feet of elevation gain in just four days.

But this ride is about far more than miles and elevation. It's about giving back to a community that continues to sacrifice so much in service to our nation.

Steve has set a fundraising goal of $10,000, with every dollar raised going directly to Big Sky Bravery to support our nation's active-duty SOF warriors and their families.

September brought another month of meaningful progress at the Big Sky Bravery Ranch!

From the Main Lodge to the Caretakers Cabin, Recreation Barn, Alumni Cabin, and Family Cabin, construction continues to move forward. With each milestone, these spaces are taking shape, bringing us closer to welcoming our nation's active-duty Special Operations Forces and their families.

“The volunteers and staff at Big Sky Bravery are the most selfless, patriotic Americans I have met in my 20 years of service. They simply get it.

During our time in Montana, we had the privilege of spending an evening with the Big Sky Bravery team at a company event. The evening felt more like a family gathering, inclusive of the SOF recipients—it takes a special group of people to create that atmosphere. This is what giving back and paying forward look like.

Big Sky Bravery’s approach to supporting the SOF community is unparalleled.

Gifting SOF operators the time to immerse themselves in reflection and outdoor recreation simultaneously offers a rare opportunity. A week in Montana gave me the chance to find new meaning in my 20 years of service, learn from other SOF operators’ journeys, and apply different perspectives to planning the next stages of my life.

Thanks to Big Sky Bravery, I was able to strengthen who I am as an individual, a SOF leader, and a teammate, while also defining how I want to give back to the veteran community.

The donor contribution extends beyond the operator. In addition to the generosity donors bring by funding a SOF operator recipient, the lasting impact on an individual reaches the SOF team, the SOCOM community and mission, and our families.

SOF operators are better versions of themselves after leaving Montana.

The question of the day served as an effective daily primer, giving me a sense of purpose and focus for each day. I encourage every SOF operator to lean into this part of the Big Sky Bravery experience during their time in Montana. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to reflect and find deeper meaning among members of the SOF community."

Our 9th Annual Tribute Dinner was another extraordinary and humbling reminder of what is possible when a community chooses to stand behind our nation’s Special Operations Forces and their families.

To every person who joined us, gave generously, raised a paddle, bid on an auction item, volunteered, sponsored, donated, shared our mission, or helped make this night possible: thank you.

Your support is more than generosity. It is action.

We said it that night: We are here because we refuse to look away.

We refuse to accept that those who carry the heaviest burdens on behalf of this country should ever have to carry them alone. Because gratitude without action is not enough.

When men and women are willing to stand up and fight for us, we will stand up and fight for them.

That is what happened at Tribute Dinner.

A room full of people chose to stand with those who continue to serve, and because of you, Big Sky Bravery can continue showing up for them in the ways they need, when they need it most.

We are deeply humbled by the generosity of this community and profoundly grateful for the trust you place in our mission.

To our nation’s SOF warriors and their families: We see you. We remember. And we stand with you.

Over 45,000 nonprofits support America’s veterans, but far fewer focus on those still on the front lines. Active-duty Special Operations Forces (SOF) make up just 3% of the U.S. Armed Forces, yet they have endured more than half of all combat casualties in recent years. These warriors carry the weight of our freedom, safety, and the longest conflict in American history.

Founded in 2015, Big Sky Bravery offers these elite warriors a rare opportunity to escape the relentless demands of battle. Our world-class, all-expense-paid programs (Task Forces) in Montana’s restorative landscapes allow them to decompress, reclaim what war has taken, and reconnect with the freedom they fight to protect.

Understanding that sacrifice extends beyond the battlefield, we’ve expanded our mission to serve SOF spouses and families, along with a lifelong alumni program offering continued support. For those who give everything, we make it our unwavering mission to support them.
