The Camp Bomazeen Conservation Project is a 7 Lakes Alliance initiative to acquire and permanently protect 280 acres on Great Pond, including 900 feet of shoreline and nearly 200 acres of wetlands.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗟𝗔 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 $𝟱𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟳 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁
🌲$300,000 in September 2026 as an initial investment in the project.
🌲$50,000 annually for four years, beginning in 2027, to support the continued stewardship and management of the Camp Bomazeen property.
Our initial $300,000 contribution represents an up-front investment equal to 10% of the project’s campaign cost. This is a remarkable milestone for our organization and one that has been made possible by the generosity, stewardship and longstanding commitment of BLA members.
𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙇𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨
As Maine’s oldest lake association, the BLA remains focused on protecting and preserving Great Pond and Long Pond. Our collaborative relationship with 7 Lakes Alliance is among our most valuable. While our organizations have distinct roles, our missions are closely connected: the BLA provides strong leadership and support for Great Pond and Long Pond, while 7 Lakes provides professional management and expertise for lake science and remediation, land conservation, and stewardship throughout the entire Belgrade Lakes watershed.
The Camp Bomazeen Project demonstrates what is possible when our organizations work together. It also reinforces an important message: supporting the BLA and supporting 7 Lakes Alliance are not competing choices. Both organizations, and the complementary work we perform, are vital to the long-term health of our lakes.
Donations to the BLA sustain our direct work on Great Pond and Long Pond and provide the financial strength that allows us to step forward as a significant collaborator when opportunities such as Camp Bomazeen arise. Contributions to 7 Lakes Alliance support the professional conservationists, scientists, and staff who manage the programs and major projects needed to protect the broader watershed and to be responsive to conservation opportunities of this scale.
