350 Waldo County

350 Waldo County 350 Waldo County is a grassroots, volunteer organization that educates about climate disruption while building a socially, environmentally just community.

Link to meeting notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13ZX12SXSUrP4N__2GslO0r3WYUkuhF24OsMdSyQCBp0/edit?usp=sharing. 350 Waldo County works in collaboration with many groups and organizations, including but not limited to Thanks But No Tank, SEEDs for Justice, Save the Bay, Wabanaki Confederacy, Penobscot Nation, Belfast Transition, Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition, Waldo County Peace & Justice

Group, Stop the East-West Corridor, other 350 Maine nodes and members of the Alliance for the Common Good. We work with these entities by sharing their messaging, publicizing their events and issues, and offering physical support with our numbers when appropriate. We may support coalition work with funding, but funding is not required for a collaborative work. We support 350 Maine statewide campaigns—tar sands, oil trains, divestment. If we do not choose to support a particular campaign, individual node members can still participate but cannot represent 350 Waldo County. We will not field any campaigns that compete with statewide organization campaigns—e.g., no separate 350 Waldo County Tar Sands Campaign. We send representatives to meetings for campaigns in which we participate and to the State House in support of legislation deemed relevant by the Environmental Priorities Council and the 350 Maine Policy Team.

Common Ground Community Gardens teamed up with kids summer programming at the Recreation Center. This month we talked about how slow the dragon's egg cucumbers in the garden were to mature. We told the story of Pepitolina, the mother dragon who was still hibernating. We needed the kids to help wake her up and get her energized so the dragon's egg cukes could grow.

Kids formed the ribs and Maggie led the parade, carrying the dragon's head. We chanted, using one from "Finding Nemo"--Ah hoo, Wah hee, Ah ho ho hoo--and paraded around the garden. To hear some of the chant and see the parade check out the video.

Then kids helped with snack preparation by harvesting some dill and making a dip to use with baby carrots and cucumber spears.

We also saved a few shots of the creation of Pepitolina's skin. She is a paper mache head with a skin that consists of three curtain sheets, dyed with special polyester dye and stained with some India in. Her ribs are cut hoops. We took her for a "test drive" before we did the program.

Trump has packed every major agency and department w/climate change deniers from top down: EPA, DOI, USDA, NASA, Energy, etc. Scientists aren't scientists, all have deep pockets w/fossil fuel industry, climate change information now deleted. The budget will be voted on this week or early next. Please call King and Collins asap.

PBS gave Robert Murray a platform to say climate change is a gambit to enrich Democrats, not a crisis for humanity.
