🍬🚑 Maine ENA on the Move!

Recently, Maine ENA President Kelly Collins stopped by St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor to deliver a little candy, a lot of gratitude, and a heartfelt thank you to the Emergency Department team.

Unfortunately, the department was so busy caring for patients that there wasn't even time to gather everyone for a staff photo — and honestly, that's the perfect reflection of emergency nursing. When patients need us, they always come first.

St. Joseph Hospital's Emergency Department serves the Bangor region and surrounding communities with compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to providing exceptional care when people need it most. Every day, their nurses, providers, technicians, and support staff work tirelessly to care for patients experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

While we may not have captured a picture, we did capture something even more important — the dedication, teamwork, and heart that make emergency nursing so special.

Thank you to the entire St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Department team for all you do for your patients, families, and community. Your hard work never goes unnoticed. ❤️

And remember... you never know when a Maine ENA Board member may stop by your Emergency Department with a sweet treat and a sincere thank you!

🍬🚑 Maine ENA on the Move!

Maine ENA President Kelly Collins stopped by MaineHealth Waldo Hospital in Belfast to share some candy, gratitude, and appreciation with the incredible Emergency Department team.

Waldo Hospital represents the very best of Maine community and critical access emergency care. Recently recognized by Maine EMS for Children with the prestigious Pediatric Innovator designation for pediatric readiness, Waldo’s ED continues to demonstrate what preparation, teamwork, and excellence look like. Their emergency department achieved an impressive pediatric readiness score of 94 — a testament to their commitment to caring for Maine’s children.

That teamwork and dedication were also on full display during the recent tragic Searsmont fire. Alongside neighboring hospitals and EMS partners, Waldo Hospital quickly stabilized and transferred critically injured patients, helping ensure they reached higher levels of trauma care when minutes mattered most.

These moments remind us that while trauma centers often receive recognition, the lifesaving work begins long before transport. Our community and critical access hospitals are the front line — assessing, stabilizing, comforting families, coordinating transfers, and carrying the emotional toll of these events long after the ambulances leave.

To the Waldo ED team — and to all of Maine’s community and critical access emergency departments along with our trauma centers — thank you. Your skill, resilience, and compassion save lives every day and do not go unnoticed. ❤️

And remember… you never know when a Maine ENA Board member may stop by your Emergency Department unexpectedly with candy and gratitude in hand.

From the Maine ENA Board of Directors, we pause this Memorial Day to honor and remember the fallen service members who gave their lives in defense of our country.
Emergency nurses witness courage every day, and today we reflect on a different kind of courage—the selfless sacrifice of those who never returned home.
We also recognize the legacy of military nurses and medics who served beside them, bringing compassion and care in the most difficult conditions.
Their sacrifice is remembered. Their service is honored. Their memory lives on.
