Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District Soil and Water Conservation Districts are comprised of interested individuals who are interested in local natural resource concerns.

WCSWCD is dedicated to helping people and groups learn about and implement the best practices to keep landscapes and ecosystems healthy, productive and resilient. We accomplish our mission through promotion, the delivery of technical assistance, education and outreach to public and private landowners in a non-regulatory fashion. We promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, often collaborating with federal, state and local partners.

Join Waldo County Soil & Water Conservation District, Sebasticook Regional Land Trust, and the Unity Public Library for a fun, family-friendly community art event this Saturday!

Agricultural Land Use Changes Over Time at the Richardson Memorial

We will trace past and present day land uses of the Richardson Memorial Preserve in Unity as related to soils, geography and agricultural markets over time. In the process we will discover some historical relics offering clues of past land uses. We will walk approximately one mile on uneven terrain while exploring soils, geology, vegetation and land uses while discovering some historical relics. Bring comfortable walking shoes, bug repellant and water.
