Our speakers at last week's meeting were Rob Dietz and Jayne Crosby Giles. They updated club members on the Waldo County YMCA's plans to increase its endowment fund.

The Y started in 1977 and was known as the Y without walls. It has grown over the years and now has a wonderful facility on Lincolnville Avenue, serving Waldo County residents.

Our club is very grateful to the Maine State Credit Union for its donation to our Legacy project. A $2500 check was presented to us at last week's meeting.

Thank you Maine State Credit Union!

Every child deserves a place to play, explore, and belong. That's why we're excited to be part of the Belfast Maine Rotary Club's efforts to bring an inclusive community playground to Belfast.

This future gathering place will create opportunities for children of all abilities to connect, grow, and make lasting memories while strengthening our community for generations to come.

Our speaker at last week's meeting was Alice Seeger who is serving as the interim executive director of the Colonial Theater. She spoke of the difficulties running a non-profit organization. The Colonial has been a part of Belfast since 1912 and wishes to continue be a part of the community. The theater not only shows first run movies but has previewed films made by local students and hosts various live performances.

Thank you Alice for speaking to us.

Our speaker this week was Rachel Spatz Bidstrap who is the interim director of Friends of Baxter State Park. She talked about some of the history of the park and explained how Mt. Katahdin is the terminus (or perhaps the beginning) of the Appalachian Trail. She also gave information about Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program and Baxter Youth Conservation Corps.

A very interesting program!

We were excited to induct a new member this week. Leah O'Neill is our newest member. She is a community liaison officer with the Volunteers of America, working with the Belfast Police Department.

She said she was raised going to the Ellsworth club with her dad who belonged to the club. She is very familiar with what it means to be a Rotarian!

Welcome to the Belfast club!

Our district governor!!

Ontario optometrist Serge Poulin turned personal loss into action after a childhood friend died by su***de.

When he shared his grief at a Rotary meeting, half the room raised their hands and said, "Yes, me too."

Today, more than 200 Rotary members have completed gatekeeper training under Poulin's leadership, helping them recognize warning signs and connect people with professional support.
