But Still I Am One

But Still I Am One Our mission is to empower young adults ages 16 to 21 who are experiencing homelessness in Waldo County. Discover our approach in the About section.

By providing financial resources and additional support, we aim to help them flourish. But Still I Am One is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are on a mission to empower young adults aged sixteen to twenty-one experiencing homelessness in Waldo County. We do it by providing these services:

1. Prepaid Visa Cards: These cards empower young adults by giving them control over their lives and allowing them t

o purchase essentials.

2. Driving School Support: We recognize that driving school is essential for new drivers under eighteen in Maine. Our organization helps cover the cost, which can be as high as $600.

3. Youth Outreach Specialist:
When young adults seek financial assistance, our Youth Outreach Specialist meets with them to verify their identities and assess their needs. Along with providing a prepaid Visa card, the specialist shares information about resources that the young adults may not be aware of. Many young adults also reach out to the Youth Outreach Specialist on behalf of others whom they believe could benefit from this assistance.

4. Homeless Prevention Initiative - provides rental support in cases of job loss, illness, or other unexpected expenses. Our long-term ultimate goal? To offer a safe haven—a place these resilient young adults can truly call home. You can help us achieve our mission by donating to But Still I Am One. It's Giving Tuesday today! We are hoping to be able to continue supporting two students through our Homeless Prevention Initiative for the rest of the School year. We provide a $500 a month stipend to the home provider and $100 a month to the student. This program helps provide a stable home for the students so that they can concentrate on school and not have to worry about where they will live or if they will have enough food to eat.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission. We are so very grateful. More good news! Anabel Marion, a student at Mount View High School, won Best Poem in our Creative Contest for National Homeless Youth Awareness Month! We received a record number of entries this year, with students responding to one of two prompts: "How would you feel if you didn't have a home?" Or "What supports would there be in a community that ended homelessness?" You can see Anabel's poem, along with the other contest entries, at tonight's Empty Bowl Supper at Mount View. Congratulations, Anabel!

We're psyched to be hosting Pizza + A Movie Night at the Belfast Teen Center, in the heart of Belfast. (Technically in the Torchlight space next to Rockweed, across the street from Darby's Restaurant.) We'll have pizza, popcorn, and (natural) sodas courtesy of Belfast Community Co-op, who didn't even *blink* when we asked them to support us. All free, all for (only) teens.
