The Friends of Whitfield is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Whitfield Conservation Area Complex in the conservation of wildlife and habitats through environmental education, research, and res

The Friends promote the preservation of the natural and historical resources of the WWCA, foster its uses and enjoyment by the public consistent with the protection and preservation of its environment and wildlife, and engage in such educational, scientific, and civic activities as will assist the management of the WWCA in carrying out its mandates.

EXPERIENCE HISTORY! Beginning at 10 am at the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area, Doug Baum and his camels Daleel and Jadid will reenact history invoking the spirit of the 1857 U.S. Army Camel Corps that traveled the Camino Real and possibly made a stop at Whitfield! Bring the kids. They'll get to see the camels up close and have a chance to earn a Junior Camel Ranger Badge. Plus, we'll have our partner vendors out to educate you to Whitfield's conservation efforts and more. Get outside! WE HAVE TENTS TO KEEP YOU DRY! That's TODAY starting a 10 am!

Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, the U.S. Army Camel Corps arrives at the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area for our Earth Day Celebration! Learn about the history of these AMAZING animals and their 1857 journey along the Camino Real with a possible stop at Whitfield! Friday's LIVE camel program is at: 2 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5 pm. Saturday at: 10:30 am, Noon, 2 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5 pm. Be sure to bring the kids!

The Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area Earth Day Celebration on Friday and Saturday, April 18 & 19 will feature a HISTORIC re-enactment of the U.S. Camel Corps complete with LIVE camels! Those Sandhill Cranes are heading to the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area for the Friends of Whitfield's Annual Member Meeting, Saturday, February 8 from 10 am to Noon. And you should too! In addition to regular board business there will be a special presentation given by Jackie Leyba, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Bureau of Land Management, plus a birthday celebration for the Friends with cake and refreshments served. Get there before those cranes do! They love cake.

You won't want to miss the annual Whitfield Under the Stars happening this Friday, November 22 from 5 pm to 8 pm (weather permitting). This free event for the whole family includes a LIVE owl presentation at 5 pm. Telescopes will be available to view the stars along with a Night Sky talk that begins at dark with hot chocolate served. Get a load of them stars! Woo-hoo!
