Fred Meijer River Valley Rail Trails

The October meeting of the Friends of the Fred Meijer River Valley Rail-Trails will be held this Wednesday, October 14th at the depot in Belding. It is located at 100 Depot St. Meeting begins at 6:00pm. Anyone who is interested in using and/or supporting the trail is welcome. If you can't make it to our meeting consider attending the Lowell Area Trailway meeting on the same evening at Vergennes Township Hall - 6:30pm.

Beginning Friday, October 9th, our contractor, Scott Litchfield will begin cutting back the brush that has started to encroach on the trail. This fall's work will cover the Fred Meijer Grand River Valley Rail-Trail between Lowell and Ionia. It is anticipated that this project will take about a week to complete, weather permitting. Please give Scott and his equipment plenty of room if you encounter him out on the trail and pass when he indicates that it is safe to do so. Watch for potential debris on the trail until we get it cleaned off.

Trail maintenance alert: Beginning this weekend, D&D Asphalt will be doing crack repair and sealing on all of the paved sections of our trail system. This includes Greenville, Belding, Smyrna, Lowell, Saranac and Ionia. Please be respectful of restrictions on the trail placed by our contractor to avoid damaging their work. The time frame of the trail repair work is weather dependent. We anticipate sealcoating some significant sections of our asphalt next year.

Trail maintenance alert: Our mowing contractor, Scott Litchfield, will be out on our trail system beginning this weekend (Friday), weather permitting, to cut the grass on the trail shoulders and w**d wack into early next week. Please give Scott and his tractor plenty of room and pass when he indicates that it is safe to do so. Thanks Scott!

Weather permitting, our contractor will be making an application of herbicide for w**d control this week. You may wish to avoid the trail for a short time if you are sensitive to this process. This covers the section of trail between Saranac and Ionia.
