IM Kids 3rd Meal IM Kids 3rd Meals provides food insecure children with a nutritious, ready-to-eat meal delivered righ Children love the decorated bags!

Food insecurity refers to USDA’s measure of lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Food insecure children are those children living in households experiencing food insecurity. Food insecure households are not necessarily food insecure all the time. Food insecurity may reflect a household’s need to make trade-offs between important basic needs, such as housing or medical bills, and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods. Although food insecurity is harmful to any individual, food insecurity is particularly devastating among children due to their increased vulnerability and the potential for long-term consequences. Several studies have demonstrated that food insecurity impacts cognitive development among young children and is linked to poorer school performance. Other data show the health consequences of food insecurity among children, including increased illness and higher associated health costs.

1 in 4 children in Montcalm County are food insecure. 1 in 5 in Ionia County are food insecure. IM Kids 3rd Meal provides 12 schools with evening meals for food insecure children in Ionia and Montcalm counties. Every meal includes:

đź’š Childhood food insecurity is close to home.

According to Feeding America’s 2024 estimates:
📍 Ionia County: 18.2% of children—2,530 children—live in food-insecure households.
📍 Montcalm County: 19.1% of children—2,690 children—live in food-insecure households.

That’s an estimated 5,220 local children whose families face limited or uncertain access to enough food.

IM Kids 3rd Meal helps by providing ready-to-eat evening meals for local children. Your support—through volunteering, food donations, or financial contributions—helps us put meals into children’s hands.

Every meal matters. Every helping hand counts. đź’š
