Belden Volunteer Fire Department Receives Safety Grant from State Farm-
The Belden Volunteer Fire Department recently received funding through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, administered in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC). The grant enabled the department to purchase a new ground monitor, a vital tool that enhances firefighter safety and fire suppression efficiency.
Serving a rural community of about 111 residents, the Belden VFD relies entirely on volunteers. Before receiving this grant, the department lacked a ground monitor, which made large-scale fire operations more difficult and hazardous. The new equipment enables firefighters to deliver high volumes of water from a safe distance—especially important for structure and grass fires in rural areas.
“The ground monitor has already proven to be an incredible asset,” said Assistant Chief Lathan Ohlrich. “It allows our firefighters to control large fires more effectively while keeping them safe. For a small department like ours, this makes a huge difference.”
The Belden VFD extends its gratitude to State Farm and the NVFC for supporting rural departments and helping ensure firefighters have the tools they need to serve their communities safely and effectively.
Thanks to the generous support of the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council, our department has been awarded a $10,000 grant that has enabled us to purchase a brand-new ground monitor for firefighting operations!
This equipment is a game-changer for our rural community — it allows us to deliver large volumes of water quickly and safely, from a safer distance, which is especially important when we’re dealing with structure fires, equipment or brush fires, and to our neighbors for mutual aid.
We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our volunteers and the support of generous programs like this. A heartfelt thank you to State Farm and the NVFC for believing in small-town fire departments and helping us better protect lives, property, and farms in the Belden area.
Stay safe out there, everyone.
