NurtureSelf sounds self explanatory in the title – “Nurture” and “Self.” Check, and check. But how many of us actually do, in fact, nurture ourselves? Sure, we know it’s important – we’ve heard the analogy about how “You cannot pour from an empty glass.” Makes sense! But when we step outside of that scenario and into our actual lives, we forget. We work, we do, we bend, and then…we’re burnt out. N

urturing ourselves seems like a self-indulgent “Calgon take me away” commercial from the 1970s. Where’s our glass full of nourishment when we need it the most? We open the cabinet door…nope, not there. The only glasses we see are smudged, chipped, and empty. And while we’re busy putting out fires or landing that big deal, we hear whispers in the background from the “Should Police” about how we “Should be spending more time with the kids,” “Should be back at work by now,” or “Should be settling down and having a baby.”

Hence, NurtureSelf is a “Should Free Zone.” It’s a place where parents and the childfree community can combat societal stigmas and swap relatable anecdotes about the issues, challenges, and triumphs that we experience on a daily basis. There’s power in sharing stories, and in connecting with people who have frustrations and joys that parallel ours. So open that cabinet back up, take out a glass and rub out those smudges until you bring back the shiny sheen of its original glory. And start filling that glass! Fill it with compassion, forgiveness, understanding, connection, rejuvenation… and nurture.
