🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️As some of you may know, members of the Board of Ed have proposed a policy that would force teachers to remove pride flags from their classrooms. Members of the board have been targeting our LGBTQ+ students and this is, unfortunately, a latest attack.
🏳️🌈A pride flag inside classroom means nothing to many students, but to some it means everything. These flags help save lives by making sure EVERYONE knows they are included and have a safe space.
🏳️🌈The board is looking for public comment on this issue. I encourage everyone to write and tell the board that this policy is not only a blatant attack on all LGBTQ+ students, it is harmful.
🏳️🌈Please feel free to share and get the word out everywhere. We need as many people as possible to comment and show the board that the majority of the community does NOT support this policy. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
On Monday, February 26, 2024, a policy titled, “Display of Flags,” was presented at the Board of Education of Harford County business meeting. The meeting, including the policy presentation and Board conversation, is archived on the Board streaming/archive page.
Throughout the year, the Board will seek views and comments from the public on a number of issues. The Board is currently seeking public input on this and other policies via their webpage. The “Display of Flags” policy is posted for 30 days of public comment, concluding on March 28, 2024.
This page is updated frequently, and the Board of Education asks that you visit this page throughout the year to provide your input on presented policies. https://hcps.org/boe/hottopics/default.aspx
