The F Word.
We all want it, we all need it, and we all think about it a lot throughout our daily lives.
That’s right, I’m talking about Food—our choices regarding food today greatly affect our health, our communities, and our environment.
Do you believe in consuming fresh, organic, affordable (or free!), locally grown food? Are you interested in sustainable agriculture? Have you ever wanted to learn how to garden or grow your own food right here in New England? Perhaps you already love doing these things but you’re looking for like-minded people to share your passions with? Do you just want to do something positive and healing for yourself or the community? If yes, the MCC Sustainability Club would be a perfect place for you to "grow".
Right here on the Bedford Campus of MCC, we are working towards promoting a culture of environmental responsibility and providing students and faculty with the opportunity to learn about and sink their teeth into beautiful, fresh, organic food. Our community garden has 2500 square feet of growing space divided into community plots for students, faculty, and staff and 1200 square feet dedicated to the Sustainability Club in which we use it to learn, educate, grow, and eat our own food.
We have some amazing projects coming up including providing organic smoothies on campus, canning and preserving, participating in a campus wide outdoor cleanup, and of course, planting and we would love more student involvement! Soon enough, we will also have some leadership positions available for club members. Not only does club involvement look wonderful on both transcripts and resumes, it’s a great opportunity to meet people on a campus that is constantly bustling and rotating. We are also a particularly unique club as we continue to meet throughout the summer as that is our growing season. Just because this semester might be approaching it’s end, doesn't mean club activities will cease! We welcome both Lowell and Bedford students! The Sustainability Club has a blast together and we want you to be a part of it.
If you are a current MCC student, a former MCC student, or even a person who has people on their friend list who attend MCC and you believe in our cause or know someone who does, please share this status. I would love to see it spread throughout the MCC community of social networkers so that we can all work together towards living a sustainable lifestyle that works with nature rather than against it.
Sustainability Club meets in Bedford at 2:00 pm on Fridays in Henderson Hall room 308, pop in anytime, add yourself to our roster via the MCC Compass, or reach out to the Club president, Taylor Nolet, for more information at [email protected]
Come get your hands dirty.
