Bedford County Wilderness Search Team took part in National Night Out last evening in Saxton. We want to thank Saxton Borough Police Dept and Saxton Fire Dept for hosting the event this year. As always, we enjoyed talking with everyone who stopped by our table, and K9 Lexi loved the chance to get lots of pets and cuddles. We appreciate the opportunity to provide information about our team and the services we offer our community. It was definitely a fun evening for all of us!

Yesterday Bedford County Wilderness Search Team was requested for a search for a local woman who had been missing since Monday afternoon. Thankfully, the outcome was the one we always hope for. She was found and is back home with her family.
Thank you to Justin From PaWSAR West and Nina and her teammate from Mountaineer Area Rescue Group for their assistance. This is what true teamwork looks like.
Thanks also to members from Liam SAR, Steel City EMT, Air SAR, Lower Kiski SAR, Cherry Tree SAR, and Lawrence County SAR for standing by to help if the search continued into the next day.
We appreciate the relationship we all have that allows us to come together to achieve our common goal—to find those who are missing.

Bedford County Wilderness Search Team was requested by the Hyndman Volunteer Fire Company at 0130 Tuesday to assist in the search for a missing teen. Six members were deployed to search the small town, surrounding wooded areas, and the river banks. We assisted in management during the second operational period, assigning search areas for the almost 100 volunteers who arrived to help. It was a long day, but ended with the outcome we always hope for. She was found safe.

Four members of Bedford County Wilderness Search Team (Kelly, Alysha, Craig, and Callie) and prospective member, Cindy, attended trailing and air scent training at Ski Sawmill hosted by Northern Tier K9. Handlers and their K9s were exposed to different environments and scenarios that challenged them, helping move them along their path to certification and operational status. It won’t be long for most of them!

Last weekend Carol and K9 Lexi, along with two K9 handlers from our mutual aid team PaWSAR, attended a water recovery seminar at Western Carolina University. Instructors Dr Lisa Briggs and Edwin Grant shared their knowledge and experience with us; and, as always, their feedback was invaluable in helping us improve our skills in water searches both from a boat and from the shoreline.
