Good afternoon everyone,
Sydney has been in the hospital since Friday. She spiked a fever and we rushed to IU Health Bloomington ER.
While at Bloomington we were advised that she needed to stay a few days for IV antibiotics, cultures, and a few other tests. The hospitalist was prude when we asked to be transferred to Riley Hospital. Against our better judgement we admitted her there at Bloomington.
Her symptoms developed into severe nausea, disorentation/confusion, headache after the first day. She had started throwing up. We were met with rude staff that did not clearly communicate with us. I took them THREE DAYS to get her medications correct. The nurses dropped her uncapped IV line on the ground and didnt replace it. Although this might sound minuscule, it is not given her medical status. She had little immune system at the time. It took the nurses 30 minutes to respond to her call signal. I’m not sure how they expect her family to leave her knowing that it would take 30 minutes for someone to come to her in an emergency. There was no confident staff that was willing to access her port the first two days, mind you we were in a ONCOLOGY floor!! Sydney was met with yet another rude nurse as I left to try to get some sleep at our house. Said nurse bartered with Sydney to take a medication that she previously had a poor reaction to. Upon arrival, day 3, I had lost all trust with Bloomington Hospital. I met with the charge nurse and requested a transfer to Riley Hospital. For those of you that don’t know me, I am not a confrontational person.
In my opinion I would NEVER bring ANYONE I care about to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. The staff here at Riley has been exceptional in comparison to the care that we received in our prior days.
Her symptoms are subsiding and we are hoping to be out of here by the end of the week. We are still unsure of what has caused her symptoms, but we are very happy that she doesn’t have any infections.
