We admitted two hawks today.

First came Petey a small, fledgling Red Shoulder hawk.

Rhonda M. saved him! She saw him sitting beside a busy street in Bloomington! She was scared he would be struck before she could save him. But, Rhonda is a professional bird saver! This is the second one she has saved !

Petey appears to be fine. He probably just wandered to far from his parents and then encountered a busy road ! How terrifying that must have been.

Petey has eaten a good dinner and he will join the other 8 Red Shoulder fledglings we currently have. Photo is of Petey!

Unfortunately, the second hawk didn't fare so well. This was a big adult female who we assume was struck by a car. She had a broken wing, in the elbow joint. She also had several bones protruding thru the skin. It was an older wound and already infested with maggots. This was a non-repairable injury. So, we did the humane thing and ended her suffering.

Thank you Austin for stopping and helping her. Euthanasia is so much kinder than all of the things that could have happened to her if she was left to suffer by the road.

Big thanks to Dawn and Kirk for their transport help. This transport team is awesome!

Say hello to little Fluffy! Fluffy is a male American Kestrel fledgling. He was found standing in the middle of the road. He is unable to fly yet. He will join our other 4 Kestrel fledglings.

Thank you James and company for saving him and driving him part way.

Thank you Darryl and Marcy Middleton for transporting him to us. Thank you Marcy for feeding him and getting him settled in.
